You know it’s cold when even the extra fluffy and furry squirrels are shivering! Though it’s been pretty steadily cold here since about mid November, we’ve largely been spared the bitter, brutal cold that tends to set in around the new year. At least until this past week. The temps have crept into the single digits (F) a couple times this week, and it only looks to get even colder next week. Better go out and get yourself a warm coat, Mr. Saturday Squirrel. Maybe you can find a cheap one at Mecca since January is rather oddly when our winter gear starts going on clearance…
Have a great weekend everyone, and stay warm!
Oh this little dood DOES look like he’s keeping himself warm as possible. Even with a winter coat, the wind can be brutal. He needs to grab some sunflower seeds and taken them back home for breakfast – some days you just need to get fast food to go!
Pam
I don’t think I’d seen a squirrel cross (or attempt to cross) their arms before, so he must have been really chilly! Hopefully he’s got a warm fire going back at the nest…. at least if his nest is far enough away from my house, I hope he does.
He’s a cutey. Stay warm, both of you.
We tried, but he refused to snuggle up with me. I guess he didn’t want to catch my fleas…
Poor little thing! We’re barely in single figures Celsius heh heh.
Well, if we really wanted to warm things up around here, we’d adopt the Kelvin scale…
At least we’d never go negative that way…
Awwwww. What a precious little thing.
Cute but cold…
In the retail world, it’s time for swim suit season. Stay safe and warm.
This is bikini weather in Antarctica…
Poor little guy. We’ve been having a mild winter up here. Right now it’s 5c-43F. Hardly any snow either this winter….so far. I’ve probably jinxed it now. 😉 Stay warm, both of ya!
So now I know who’s hogging all the “warm” air. Maybe we need a thermal wall on the northern border… 😛
Hmm, good luck with that. ha!
I sort of thought furry wild ones hibernated the winter away…although someone wrote recently that bears are beginning to hibernate less, because it’s so warm any more. I feel for the poor lil’ squirrel all the same, and think he should go into his warm(ish) nest and get out of the cold! Silly squirrel…
It’s a common myth that squirrels hibernate, but they brave the winters just like we do. Their Canadian and northern European cousins are super-built for the cold… but they do look like they could use a jacket sometimes…
Poor little fella… he’s even got his feet tucked in. What kind of squirrel lover are you? Knit that boy a winter sweater…and soon!
Yeah, I’ll get right on that…. as soon as I learn how to knit. Maybe I can give him my old jacket that looks like swiss cheese thanks to several years of cat claws…
We’ve had a couple of very bitter days interspersed with warm ones, which is why I’m picking ticks off the dogs at the end of January.
If you’re gonna be getting the cold that’s coming here next week, you shouldn’t have to worry about ticks for a while. The negative numbers have been invoked…
Awww, what a cutie! He does look cold though. I hope the squirrels will be okay during the coming cold snap. It sounds like it’s going to be brutal. Meanwhile, the boring, mild conditions continue here.
I’d gladly take the boring, mild conditions right now over the forecast of 11 for the high and -1 for the low on Wednesday. I’m sure the squirrel would too. And Gypsy. Poor cat, I can’t get that girl to come in the house and warm up….
Brrrr! That is too damn cold! We haven’t had weather that cold since around 1989-90, I think. My car froze up and wouldn’t start for a week. I hope Gypsy will change her mind and come in. That’s way too cold for a kitty to be out in.
Cold hits here on Wednesday. The birds are going through birdseed by the pound each day and I am heaving out lots of acorns!
What a cutie!
