This Wednesday there was finally a day where the weather was reasonable, I was off work, and had time on my hands… and that meant my first squirrel photo trip to the park since last September! I wasn’t there very long, but I got a handful of decent shots that you’ll see in the next few weeks of Saturdays. Here is the perfect photo to start with since it has a squirrel eating behind a web of branches that are all starting to bloom. This has been a very Springlike week with temps in the 60’s and 70’s and even threatening 80 on Thursday. Even the post-cold front day yesterday was not bad for mid April with it only dipping into the mid 50’s. Unlike the past handful of winters, this year the first extended look at Spring actually waited until Spring to show up… and hopefully it will stick around for a while and keep the summer heat at bay until at least June….. or July….. or how about it just stays Spring the rest of the year?
Oh wait, this is a Saturday Squirrel post, not a weather report. Sorry for straying away from the cutie who should be front and center today…
Have a great weekend everyone!
Beautiful photo. Cute squirrel. Yay spring.
Yay indeed!
We don’t see many squirrels during the winter… so it’s definitely a welcome sign of spring here!
They seem to have issues getting their buried treasures out of the ground when it’s snowing here… I can’t imagine the difficulties they have with the snows you get. And they can’t call for a plow…
We seem to have a bumper crop of Spring squirrels around here – they like to pull those tiny little “baby leaves” off and stuff them in their mouths – it kind of looks like this guy in your photo is doing that too?
Pam
LOL, I followed this guy from one of the picnic areas of the park and know where he got his treat from! One person’s garbage is another squirrel’s treasure. But it’s funny you mention that, because I got a few pictures in this batch of squirrels chewing on some greenery…
The first squirrel of Spring!
Of many to come…
What a beautiful Squirrel photo. Just precious. Happy Spring!
There are a lot of cute pictures in my most recent set!
That is a real cutie! And he looks a lot happier and drier than “my” poor squirrels. We got a tease of spring weather in March but April has been rainy and only in the 40s, which feels really cold after the 60s and 70s we had a few weeks ago. The squirrels are looking particularly bedraggled this morning but they’ll probably cheer themselves up by digging up all the seed in the garden. Yesterday I noticed a big crater right in the middle of a row of carrots. 🙄
Looks like they’re trying to beat the Easter Bunny to the goodies! You need a good scarecrow like Fuzzywig on guard to scare all the critters away from the garden…
Wow! And you have buds on the trees and everything! Our young squirrel leaped from the tree directly into the flat feeder this morning, causing a great flapping amongst many birds. Not satisfied with the flat feeder, he embraced the hanging feeder. I have a feeling he’s got a nest right under the deck. For all I know ALL the creatures have nested there. Relatively safe, too. No big hawks can get them down there. But, there’s also a Bobcat on the loose.
Yep, the buds that have been trying to form for over a month now finally came out in full force after our nice warm stretch last week. The last two mornings have been chilly again, but the high tomorrow…. 80. I won’t mind the yo-yo temps as long as summer stays away until at least June…
Your squirrels are almost sooty black. Very different color than ours!
Nah, that’s just a lack of light in that photo since he was in the shade. Our squirrels look a lot like yours do. We’re a little too far south for the sooty black squirrels that are popular in the upper Midwest…
Ah. Light. Yes, light matters.
These mild days are paradise. Fingers crossed they reign (or rain, in our case) for a long while.
It’s been warm enough the last two days to bring out the wasps in full force. And now the storms apparently tonight/tomorrow….
There’s a front moving through here later today though I don’t expect anything but clouds. Tomorrow and Friday will be back in the 70’s – my own personal paradise zone.
