This was the first picture I took not even 30 seconds after I got out of my car when I went to the park a week and a half ago. This squirrel found a piece of lettuce in the garbage can near a picnic shelter! He darted off after I took this first picture. Squirrels can run, but they can’t hide from the staff photographer at The Nest…
Yeah, sure you did, pal. Don’t worry…. if your mother happens to be reading my blog, she’ll be quite proud of you for eating your greens. And thus ends the story of another happy and healthy Saturday Squirrel!
Have a great weekend everyone!
What is about watching squirrels eat? I love to see them nibbling nuts at the feeders…
Good question, because I sure don’t like watching people eat. Or even my cats. Nobody can quite pull off dining cuteness like squirrels can.
“Lettuce” rejoice. Haha, classic.
It’s like he felt he was doing something wrong, scampering off like that. Or maybe he thought the two-legs with the flash-box wanted his garbage lettuce…
Well, if he couldn’t tell by my pot belly that I wouldn’t want his healthy lettuce….
He did look smug as he munched! Creepy food voyeur must have been running through his mind though…
Super Creepy Rob Lowe goes to the park to watch squirrels eat (picks up binoculars)….
He doesn’t look like he needs to diet. lol
Well, if he dug chocolate bars out of the trash instead, he’d get a hanging belly that might keep him from climbing trees!
Kale would be better than Iceberg. Just saying. 😈Have a super Easter weekend.
I’m not sure what selection there was for him to pick from…. I never looked in the can.
A little salad with dinner is a well-rounded meal. Hopefully before you saw him munching the lettuce he had a leftover corner of tomato or burger as a “main course” !
Pam
I have no idea what kind of “buffet” was in that can, but I’m sure it was…… ummm….. good.
Do you think you should take some lettuce with you next time, the squirrels will love you more than ever.
I’ve never really thought of squirrels as lettuce eaters. We used to have a guinea pig that loved lettuce, but I’ve always assumed squirrels would rather have acorns and corn.
Squirrels destroyed, some years ago, every pea seedling eating them immediatly they were seen. I blamed magpies, but then I found two peanuts hidden there.
Garry filled both feeders yesterday and Greedy Guts, our favorite midday squirrel, literally at the entire contents of the flat feeder. I’m surprised he could still move.
Squirrels are like teenage boys… all that food just goes into some wormhole in the middle of their stomach.
ATE not AT
So absolutely cute. Hope that little squirrel enjoyed it’s salad.
From the smile, I would say he did. He certainly enjoyed his salad more than I would enjoy any salad…
A health food eating squirrel. How lovely. Probably on a diet so he’ll look good for swimsuit season.
Oh dear…. now I have to get a photo of a squirrel in a bikini or a speedo…
Oh, you could improvise:

That’s funny since the squirrel has two teats poking out underneath his hands too…
😉
I think by the size of the teats it is safe to claim this is a female animal – with teats that have already been in use.
Only thing better would be if he found some ranch to go with his salad.
And some croutons…. if the ants haven’t eaten them already.
I didn’t know squirrels would eat lettuce! I’ve put veggies out for them and they didn’t touch them. But it totally figures that they will eat lettuce because I just planted some on Sunday.
Hopefully I didn’t give them any ideas!
I hope you didn’t give them any ideas either. They have enough opinions about how my yard should be as it is! Apparently they do not like carrots to grow in straight rows….
