I Never Bring You Flowers

a box full of junk

It’s the day to expect the unexpected as The Nest disembarks on the next stop of our Wednesday Magical Mystery Tour that we call Random Image Inspiration.  We’re gonna use some poor sap’s post to find a picture to inspire greatness…. or perhaps mediocrity.  Randomator… do your thing!

23, 7, 52, 4

The 23rd post in my Reader was this one by Ghost

The 7th word in that post is “honeysuckle” (!)

The 52nd word in that post is “glad”

I guess it could be frozen turkeys, but more likely……

Putting “honeysuckle glad” into Google Images turned this up as the 4th result…

So a post about flowers is going to inspire a post about……. flowers.  Way to go Randomator!

They say April showers bring May flowers.  Well, it did a hell of a lot of showering in April… so there better damn well be a shitload of flowers out there now.

Only if these count as flowers… which they should.

I’m not a gardener since seeds generally don’t want to sprout if you plant them in your carpet, and I generally can’t be bothered to actually go outside.  But my house does have a pair of flower beds on either side of my front door.  Though they are mainly weed boxes now, there are still a few bulbs planted by the previous owner ten years ago that still pop up.  There are tulips on the left…

Awww, baby tulip!

And daffodils on the right…

Occasionally, a cat also sprouts up.

And then there is the time I actually managed to grow a pathetic looking sunflower…

Someone just shoot me with Roundup already!

In the 60’s there were Flower children who relied on Flower Power… and no, I’m not talking about the kind of flower power Mario used in the Nintendo games…

If it’ll light up, he’ll smoke it.

Neil Diamond never brings Barbra Streisand flowers, the Statler Brothers liked to count flowers on the wall, the Talking Heads saw a world with nothing but flowers… and always remember that if you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair…

You’ll go far in San Francisco…

The Nest loves all different kinds of flowers!  The daisy…

The buttercup…

The crocus…

The pansy…

You again!?!?!?

And the narcissus…

You again!?!?!?

If you’re a delicate flower, chances are you probably ran away crying from my blog a long time ago.

Allow Mitzi to show you her flower… which is always in bloom.

I’m about out of flower references, so before this post completely wilts and drops its nasty petals all over the floor, I better nip it in the bud.  Hopefully next week RII will come up smelling like roses…

  1. where have all that flowers gone LOL I remember that we smoked leaves as kids… uaaah …

  2. Countin’ flowers on the wall, that don’t bother me at all… great song! Have a great weekend! 🙂

  3. Mitzi looks really, really happy, maybe smoking some flowers? lol

  4. Mitzi is a pip alright……and so is this flowery post! You did very well considering you had “honeysuckle glad” leading the way.

    Pam

    • There was another way I could count the words in that post, and I did that to try and see if it came up with a more interesting result….. but the words in that case were…. “again honeysuckle!” I couldn’t get rid of the H word, and it dominated the search and brought up yet another honeysuckle flower. Google wanted me to do a flower post today!

  5. Parkay! Ha… that takes me back.

  6. We are not getting flowers. Ours are drowning in the mud. We have had the rainiest month since 1872, which is a 140 years of better weather. Just saying.
Garry likes to buy me flowers, but they die and I tend to leave them dead in the vase. I hate throwing away the bouquets. This year, I’m not going to be growing flowers on the deck because I have too many hungry squirrels to care for. That little squirrel is really filling out and we have the fattest birds I’ve ever seen. So we are growing fat birds, pudgy squirrels — and dead flowers. Cool.

    • Yeah, gardening and squirrels do not mix. It’s very hard to appreciate both at the same time. With all the activity your feeder gets, you’ll have plenty of nature to enjoy without the hassle of caring for flowers…

I also have flowers which sprout unexpectedly once a year from seemingly dead flowerbeds. Yay, previous owner!

  8. Ally Bean says:

You’re not one for flowers, huh? I’m shocked I tell you. 😉

Watching flowers on the wall…something about Captain Kangaroo…

    • From memory:

      Counting flowers on the wall
That don’t bother me at all
      Playing solitaire til dawn
With a deck of fifty one
Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo
(Something like) It’s plain to see I’ve plenty to do

Yay for honeysuckle flowers! So funny it turned out that way…it was meant to be that you had to write about flowers!
Back in the day, I put a large yellow flower power sticker on my first car…it was a 64 Falcon (burgundy) haha!
Thanks for the fun post and the mention! 🙂
(and Yay for my favorite Sparkle Pony making an appearance!)

    • It was funny that both ways I counted the words in your post that the word “honeysuckle” popped in there… I usually always snag little generic words with my Randomator. But yes, you got me to write about flowers! And you can tell from the look of Sparklepony’s face that she just loves that dandelion from the kids!

  11. Oh, my favourite lady Mitzi has learned pole dancing, go girl, go and show them, hmm you already did show all.

    • Mitzi’s been working the pole for a while, but that’s the first time I was able to get her into that pose… with a little help from some twist ties. We’ll just say that they were needed because of Mitzi’s awkward center of gravity…

  12. For a guy who’s not into flowers, you did a nice floral-ly post! Well done.

  13. Trisha says:

Your tulips and daffodils look better than any of mine! The squirrels planted a couple of tulips in my front yard this year but they beheaded them once they bloomed. I really can’t figure out what their gardening goals are.

    • The tulip and daffodil pictures are both several years old… I think both from 2016. The remaining tulips still did OK this year, but the daffs are getting crowded out by the weeds. That is so cute that the squirrels were planting their own toys!
