Over the past seven years or so I’ve taken a LOT of pictures of squirrels. Many more than most people probably have. And I’ve taken them all year round. So I decided to try out what I hope will be a fun little series for the next three months in which I will ask my readers (that would be those of you who haven’t fallen asleep yet… or who just fast forward to the Like button) to help me put together a theoretical squirrel calendar based on some of my favorite pics I’ve taken.
Yes, all of you out there will get to decide which squirrel will adorn each month of this virtual calendar. I will provide a set of my personal favorites from all of the squirrel shots I’ve taken in that particular month, and at the end of each post you’ll get to vote for which one you think would look best for that month’s calendar page.
I’ve chosen seven photos for you to select from, all of which I took during the month of January… listed here in chronological order:
#1. Blue Balls Squirrel (January 8, 2014)
#2. End of the Road (January 30, 2014)
#3. Smile! (January 1, 2015)
#4. Lord of the Leaves (January 29, 2016)
#5. I See Uranus! (January 1, 2017)
#6. Corn Cob Cutie (January 3, 2018)
#7. Freezing My Nuts Off! (January 13, 2019)
So there is your lineup of Miss (Or Mr.) January hopefuls! Which one would you select to take the first spot on The Nest’s calendar? Vote below! And please only vote once… you can always see the current results at any time by clicking on the View Results link.
Voting ends next Wednesday night the 28th! I’ll announce the January winner in my February post next Thursday…
While I loved #3, I voted for #1 because I think it’s more representative of winter. But I really liked the other photo best… the one in the bird bath.
😉
I almost included the birdbath one, but figured anyone going for snow would like #1 better. That’s why I shouldn’t try to judge my own contests…
blue bells…ahhh no blue balls!!!! #5 could fit to march that was the month uranus was discovered 1781
Yes it was! January is a fitting month for Uranus…
Tough choice because they are all gems…..even the guy on the top of the fence (looks like his little paw/claw has some red on it? ouch!) and the birdbath rooftop restaurant one. I really like the idea of a calendar !
Pam
I wish I could actually put it together, but last time I had checked, a 12-photo calendar wasn’t an option on Cafepress. And I could only imagine how much they’d charge to print out 12 separate images…
Oh darn – I have thought about doing a calendar at Cafepress but if you can’t – maybe another platform like Zazzle???
Because it’s for January I went with Blue Balls squirrel, but I think Lord of the Leaves is a wonderful photo and needs to be presented as a possiblity for October or November.
[Also, couldn’t help but think of you when I came upon the following: https://www.grandinroad.com/no-evil-squirrels-set-of-three/1290664?searchTerm=SUGGESTION%20–%20No%20Evil%20Squirrels%2C%20Set%20of%20Three%5D 😈
Thank you for voting… and it’s going to bug me a bit that some of my photos are more seasonably appropriate for a different month than they were taken in. That is probably my best Autumnish photo that I unfortunately took in January.
And I LOVE that set of squirrels. Not that I really need more critters at The Nest, but they would be very busy covering up their eyes, ears and mouth if they got involved in one of my Shelf Critter Theatre stories…
Thought you might like those guys…
I can’t see the place where to vote, but you can add my vote, number one, January means here always snow. All the pics are cute, but not snow.
Thank you, I have added your choice using my “vote.”
Thank you! The idea of a squirrel calenders is great.
Neat idea for a squirrel calendar! I like them all, but favored # 7 best, with his little arms folded up, just enduring the cold. 🙂
Thanks for voting! I think that one is underrated since you don’t see a squirrel shivering very often!
#1. Blue Balls Squirrel. I don’t see the vote thingy.
I wonder why it’s not showing up for some people. I used my vote already for Rantasalot, but I’ll remember to tack your vote on to the final tally…
I too voted for “Blue Balls Squirrel” (or #1), BUT the whole time I was thinking “I’m freezing my nuts off” should be a caption for the January page. So as a second choice I would choose: #7. Yeh.
Well, some calendars like to include “inspirational” quotes on them, so we’ll just add that under whatever picture. And maybe put it on there for February as well since love stinks…
Come on, it only makes sense to kick off a new year with ‘Smile!’ It sets a positive tone for the year. Unless, of course, that’s not your goal… In which case, definitely go with ‘I See Uranus!’ 😛
Like March, if the year goes in with a smile, it will go out with Uranus…
What a cool (!) Idea!
I see what you did there!
A nice bevy of options but I like the first one best! Clever idea.
You like the first one because it isn’t 100 degrees in that picture…
Perhaps (but it is for January, right?) but more because it looks like someone may have scored a partial bullseye with a snowball. 😈
I wanted the bird bath one but it didn’t make the cut, so Blue Balls it is! I like the frosting on his fur.
You try to dig for nuts in the snow, you’re going to get frosted…
My vote was for #7. They’re all adorable, even the mooning squirrel.
It takes a lot of talent to look that good from every angle…
I voted for #3 because I couldn’t resist those chubby cheeks but it was a hard decision. They’re all so adorable! And I love how Blue Balls looks totally annoyed about being nuts deep in the snow. So cute!
That is probably the first time nuts deep has been used to describe being in snow!
Lol! Probably! In the moment I couldn’t think of an appropriate body part.
I vote #3 Smile–adorable!
That would have been my pick too, but most people went for the snowy photo which has now officially won. Thanks for voting, and February is up for grabs now!
