Ah yes! The beautiful month of May!
It’s time to make like Bob Seger and turn the page… to the next month in The Nest’s virtual squirrel calendar we are creating! And all of the monthly representatives for this calendar are being picked by YOU, the readers! Before we look at the nominees for Mr. or Ms. May, let’s check out the final results in the voting for the April calendar squirrel. I forgot to include a midweek reminder to vote, but it didn’t matter. This was a landslide of Reagan/Mondale proportions…
It was soooooo close, but it looks like Violet Squirrel squeaked out with the win as our April model! It’s going to be a cute thirty days next year…
I’m sure I look quite handsome standing here, but please, I’m allergic to these flowers!

Everyone seems to like the cheesy squirrel. It was so much fun to watch him drain that yellowey cheeselike substance out of that package…

Ha! When I first used that pic as a Saturday Squirrel waaaaay back in the Stone Age of this blog, I went with the theme that he might be smokin’ some of the good stuff. Everyone thought I was weird and that it looked more like he was playing an instrument! Now I don’t feel so weird anymore!!!
I’m going to go with the Cheese Squirrel, he looks like he’d be down to party! lol
Hell yeah! Just wait until he finds the bottle of booze with a swig still left in it…

That cheese thing is the obvious choice/winner. Say! Is this poll fixed or what? Me? Being the contrary and crotchety old squirrel-ette that I am, I went with “Very Happy To See You!” option. Something about his/her cheeky stance! And those mating squirrels (that is what they’re doing, isn’t it?) apparently aren’t going to achieve lift. Maybe in September?
Never! If it was fixed, you’d see those beautiful ear-tufted Russian squirrels in the poll. “Very Happy To See You” was so named because….. well, from what’s starting to poke out, that squirrel is indeed very happy for some reason. The Love Squirrels aren’t doing the wild thing, at least not yet, they were just lying together… which is very, very odd to see two squirrels doing. They tend to be too anti social and territorial to just cuddle up together like that….
Blimey…a swashbuckling Sciuridae-an? Now I’ve seen it all.

I’m putting up the feeders this week because I’m afraid it will be the only NOT poison food in the valley!

Again, It was hard to choose just one! I picked Happy To See You because it looks the most like May with all the bright sunshine and because I love it when squirrels stand on their hind legs like that. So cute! Even if it means we see more of them than we want to….
I always get giddy when I see one standing while I have a camera. I’ll never forget the squirrel who stood all the way up to look at my hanging corn block! I think Ody (who usually hangs around the window when I’m taking pics of the backyard) probably thought I was crazy by how excited I got…
