Calendar Squirrel – December

Final target spotted!

All the fun and excitement we’ve had creating The Nest’s virtual squirrel calendar unfortunately comes to an end this week.  Don’t like it?  Hey, petition the UN to add a few more months to the calendar.  But you’ll get one last chance to help decide which squirrel will get to round out the calendar by being the official eye candy of next holiday season!

Before we get to that final vote, however, let’s take a look at which squirrel was the most popular choice as Mr./Ms. November…

Hey, y’all who can’t see the poll are starting to wise up and let me know your voice isn’t being heard!  I added manual votes for Franhunne, Crimson Owl and Melanie, which went one each to the top three candidates… and ultimately didn’t affect the vote at all.  The seasonal chaos of “Wait, Is It Winter Or Fall?” squirrel just eked out the pleasantly plump Mr. Peanut to grace the November spot on our calendar!

That’s great! Now does anyone want to help me rake the leaves AND shovel the snow?

And so…. December!  Winter is coming, and the squirrels are fat, furry, and looking oh so cute!  I didn’t take squirrel photos in December very often…. but when I did, I got some pretty nifty looking squirrels!  Here are your nominees for the final calendar squirrel, in chronological order…

#1. Seeking Shelter (December 14, 2013)

#2. A Mouthful (December 27, 2013)

#3. Hover Squirrel (December 27, 2013)

#4. One Giant Leap (December 27, 2013)

#5. Can’t Reach! (December 31, 2014)

#6. Eye In The Sky (December 4, 2015)

#7. Fierce (December 25, 2017)

So, which of these cuties will help make your next Christmas a little merrier?  Vote in the poll below, or if you can’t see the poll, make note of that fact in your comment and let me know your pick!

Get your vote in before the whole shebang ends next Wednesday night the 13th!  If you don’t, you’ll end up on the naughty list…

Oh, I hope Santa Squirrel comes down the tube tonight!

  1. Hover squirrel… it has the perfect technique to cross frozen roads ;O)

  2. Such great photos it’s always really tough to pick JUST ONE!

  3. Rivergirl says:

    The toughest choice yet!
I really love Fierce… but have to go with Can’t Reach for the comedic value.

    • That was so cute watching the squirrels look stumped over the corn block I hung up. All those stories I hear about daring birdfeeder raids, and my squirrels couldn’t even get to a block of corn strung up from a tree branch…

  4. Ally Bean says:

Went with Can’t Reach. Too funny.

  5. ghostmmnc says:

This has been a fun game and loved seeing all the cute little squirrels. 🙂

  6. Oh no, I “can’t reach” the end just yet. Voting for #5. I thought about #7 fierce because the squirrels around my ‘hood always look like that but then realized I didn’t need the reminder of more gangstas on a calendar for a whole month. 😉

  7. Oh man how can I possibly choose? But numbers 3 & 4, are so adorable, what am I saying they’re all adorable. Ugh….okay #4, One Giant Leap squirrel it is!

  8. crimsonowl63 says:

I need you to please add my vote for Hover Squirrel.
That squirrel takes a tiny bit of the sting out of not having hover cars.

  9. Another difficult choice. Too much cuteness to pick just one!!!! Seeking shelter just made me sad. Bring that squirrel inside and give him some peanuts and a mug of hot acorn tea.

  10. I’m so happy to have contributed to the November Squirrel winner. This month it was impossible to choose one…I want them ALL (including the first and last shots). But I went with “Fierce” in the end. Something about his feisty little face which seems to say “Yeah, stick your finger over here! You’ll draw back a STUMP if you do!!” Do squirrels get rabies? 😐 Today I found an absolutely adorable squirrel photo and again I’m bummed because I don’t know how to share those in this format. 😥 Ah well. You got plenty to choose from!! 😀

  11. draliman says:

I just couldn’t go for “can’t reach” ‘cos I feel sorry for the poor little chap…

  12. Hover squirrel! Love that one. 🙂

  13. Love hover squirrel. All he needs is an insignia and a cape and he’ll be SUPER DUPER SQUIRREL!

  14. Number 3!!! Such a great capture. Vote for me again, soon we will see the whole calender.

  15. Trisha says:

This might have been the hardest one yet! I started laughing at hover squirrel and then laughed even harder at one giant leap. And then more at can’t reach. You capture the funniest moments in the squirrel world!

  16. chattykerry says:

I was really torn but loved ‘mouthful’ – the giant leap was a close second.

  17. mydangblog says:

Fierce! That’s the one for me:-)

  18. Quirky Girl says:

I voted for A Mouthful. That squirrel bears an uncanny resemblance to the Bigly Bestest Doggie when he’s got a squeaky ball crammed in his face. 😛
