What’s your remedy for the Holiday blues?
I don’t get involved with the holiday like most other people allow themselves to do, so this isn’t an issue for me. And even though December is usually the most stressful time in Retail Hell, it can also be rather amusing and entertaining if you look for the humorous things in life. And looking for the queer and absurd things in life can be the cure for any blues that ail you…
If there isn’t enough queer and absurd in your life… get yourself some Shelf critters.
Your favorite beverage (if it differs) during the holiday season? If it doesn’t differ, just answer the ‘what’s your favorite beverage” part.
Unless it’s a hot/cold thing (Like how sno cones taste so much better on 100 degree summer days than they do on 0 degree winter days), beverages should not be limited to certain seasons. If something is good, why should it be limited by a calendar? My 24/7/365.25 is cola. Perfect for any occasion, and nobody has ever been busted for driving under the influence of Pepsi…

Is there is a person or god connected with your holiday?
My holiday? Funny how when the pushback against Christmas started about 30 years ago, it became the “cool thing” for everyone to have their own special and unique December celebration whose traditions were largely copied off the holiday they were designed to rival. I don’t get the whole need for what I always call the “mandatory December reciprocal gifting” holiday anyway. Like I said above, I don’t participate in any of it.
And all the better for me to mock the hell out of it…
Share a song that you enjoy during this Winter season
This will be difficult to do without stealing the thunder for tomorrow’s Advent calendar entry. Not being holiday inclined combined with being inundated by this crap at work every year… I tend to despise Christmas music as a whole. But there are a few enjoyable songs I like, and here’s one that really grew on me because it was a staple of Decembers past at Mecca in the early part of the millennium… and they NEVER play anymore.

Mecca plays about 87 different covers of Last Christmas in the stores now… and believe me, they are all much, much worse than the original version. If I have to hear the song, I’d rather hear George singing it…
How on earth have I managed to live on this planet for over 70 years and NOT hear this one???? I mean – is that a good or a bad thing? Whatever – it’s cute – snappy – and I bet it’s piped into the toy construction division of the North Pole to keep those elves dancing around.

It’s a really cute song, but I’ve read in lots of places since learning about it that there seems to be a lot of people who can’t stand Dominick… and I can’t understand why. Especially since a lot of those people probably love that ear-bleeding Chipmunks song….

😐 😛 I had never heard of Dominic, and you are indeed an Evil EVIL squirrel. I’m going to have that in my head for the rest of the season I bet!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Thanks for sharing your blasts and I hope the thunder in the Advent arena is still loud and satisfying. And actually, I was told I’d be a great designer for album covers (in the day – now I guess they don’t need ’em, does MP whatever even have cover art??) I did a Bob Seger ‘cover’ once and was told I ought to submit it to his group. Did not happen, my own self image is too poor…but thanks for the great compliment!! I guess I still got it… 😀
When I first saw the post, I really thought it WAS an album cover, until I looked a little closer at it. I was thinking of Missing Persons’ “Spring Session M” album, but looking at the actual cover art, it’s not really close. But still, that COULD have been an album cover for some early 80’s band. Probably not one of the old time rock and roll albums Bob Seger would take off the shelf….
Almost everyone who reads me and who I read has answered these questions pretty much the same way. Interesting. I have a little tree, already decorated. When I get around to it, I’ll move it out of the guest room and put it in the living room and when the season is over, I’ll cover it in a big plastic trash back and put it BACK in the guest room. That’s about as easy as it gets.
Well, if you are going to decorate, might as well make it easy. I have no reason to bother since I don’t want to decorate in the first place, and nobody comes over to impress. And my neighbors on either side of me decorate with ugly inflatables and LED lighted deer that you can see from space… so they have my end of the street covered.
Bah-humbug on Christmas tunes. And Pepsi. Yup, I’m all in with Team Coke, liquid version only. 🥤
It must be really hard to snort the liquid variety…
