You never know when we’ll do it anymore… but The Nest will share our world when we’re darn good and ready! And….. well, we’re darn good and ready. So let’s roll out Melanie’s questions for the last full week before You Know What and stuff ourselves full of overly fake and ridiculous Christmas cheer! And I don’t mean the laundry detergent, though drinking that Cheer may taste better than the eggnog…
Do you enjoy receiving Christmas cards through snail mail?
The third sister in my family’s pecking order is the only one in the family who habitually sends out Christmas cards. If I dug through my hoarder box of papers, I’d probably find every card she’s sent for the past decade or so….. unopened. Meh. I did get showered with Christmas cards from blog friends five years ago, which I did enjoy the novelty of, thanks to a project I did for Christmas 2014. I’ve had massive reader turnover since then, and so many of the people who participated in my ES character Christmas card game no longer blog or just don’t hang around here anymore. But it was quite a blast, and still one of the neatest things I ever did on my blog…
Do you like the taste and/or smell of peppermint?
Unfortunately, all I can think of when I read this is that overwhelmingly strong and utterly obnoxious cinnamon smell that pollutes the air at this time of the year. I can’t go within fifty feet of the aisle with all of the cinnamon scented pine cones because they just reek. We used to have a manager who’d actually get a bad allergic reaction to that shit. Cinnamon scent needs to go the way of DDT and Pepsi Free and be banned!
What is your least favorite holiday side dish?
Side dish? If there isn’t turkey, there’s nothing worth eating at any holiday feast…
What is the coolest (best) gift you ever gave someone?
My gift to the world is cheap laughter and entertainment. Anyone hoping for anything material out of me is going to have a very unmerry Christmas…
I would imagine anyone who’s received some little personal art thing from me back when I was doing stuff like that would probably insert that as the serious answer to this question…
Bonus question because I thought it was nifty: What is a Christmas song that makes you cringe?
When I did my Top 30 Iconic Songs I Can’t Stand countdown a couple years ago, I chose “Feliz Navidad” as my token Christmas song everyone but me seems to love. But if we’re talking cringeworthy music, it can only be those mother fucking asinine goddamned Chipmunks and their ear bleeding Christmas song I’ve been so fortunate to completely avoid this year. And no, I’m NOT posting a video of it…
yes, that is a super gift what fits and we will not eggs-change it the day after christmess…seriously NOT!
I like most Christmas music – the oldies and sung by oldies – most of the new “rock” versions of songs I find cringe-worthy. I still do cards but as people move or die (!) the list is getting shorter and shorter. If I had your address there would be a pile of MY cards in some corner of The Nest unopened – possibly next to your sister’s pile!!
Pam
LOL, I assure you any cards from fellow bloggers would not end up in the unopened pile! They do end up in a pile… I’m too lazy to tack them to the wall or anything… but they would get opened!
And here I was, holding my breath that SOMEONE found a recording of the Chipmunks’ Christmas song….some ‘singers’ koff koff plagaristic assholes koff koff do a version of the same song, with the exact same music (cheese polka…yep. that’s it), but no helium sucking sound effects. Of course you know that is actually a 33 1/3 vinyl played at 78 or 45 or one of those speeds only those of us using turntables understand about…and not actual helium. There’d have been three weensy graves under the tree if someone gave actual chipmunks actual helium…(I think. This ain’t a necessarily accurate science comment). Thanks Squirrel for Sharing Your World. Scrooges need love too…. ❤
You never know, chipmunks might actually like helium. I wonder what it does for a critter who already chirps at a high pitch…. maybe turns them into dog whistles? I have no idea how David Seville did his Chipmunk voices, but I definitely know the guy who sang “Little GTO” was cheating to get that high pitched whiii-iiii-iiine….
Drink some extra-creamy eggnog, eat some cinnamon cheesecake and write a few cards to people who deserve them. That should cure your seasonal malaise. 😉
I doubt it would do anything for my seasonal cynicism, though! That might require a personal talking-to from Santa…
You know, I STILL have your little piece of art on my mantel. I love it.
I know, and I look for Lil every time you show a picture of the mantel! I noticed she fell down for a time, but has now been stood back up and moved to the other side.
I’ll take your gift of cheap laughter and entertainment because it’s worth the smile you put on my face with your blog and those critters in the Nest!
So glad to hear someone else despises that silly Chipmunk’s song. Though I am surprised since I thought you loved all the rodents of the Sciuridae family.
I love rodents who DON’T SING!!! They can cause as much trouble as they want as long as they keep quiet…
🤣
I come and go nowadays, but I am still here…and I still have my “gift” from you on my fridge, Erin holding RD in front of a Christmas tree.
I mean, if I didn’t pop in once in awhile, who would slap the piss outta you?
YAY for Erin!
And for once, you said “pop” in its proper context! 😛
Yay the Chipmunks! Boo to Chipmunk haters.
I should have known there might be deaf people who enjoy the Chipmunks…
What? What’s that you say…?
I think I’d rather hear the Chipmunks than Mariah Carey screeching out the Christmas tunes. Is it bad that I’m looking forward to Christmas being over more than Christmas itself?
Mariah Carey is pretty bad. Although Mecca is playing a whole bunch of covers of that awful song this year, and somehow they are all even worse. The same is true for everyone who covers “Wonderful Christmastime,” which is the worst thing Paul McCartney ever did…
Wonderful Christmastime…ugh. Yes, that would definitely make the top ten in a list of Christmas songs that annoy the hell out of me!
Never underestimate the gift of laughter! I hear it’s one of the greatest gifts a person can give… 😉
I still have my personal art piece from the nest, in a prominent place in my room. It still makes me smile! 😊
