It’s hard to believe, but it’s been almost two full months since I’ve taken a picture of a squirrel. From my holiday plumbing blues through the winter weather blahs, the opportunities and/or motivation just hasn’t been there. Luckily for my blog’s most enduring feature, I have such a vast archive of squirrel photos from the past eight years… that I can more than make do until the time comes when I finally get to put a 2020 watermark on some new pics. And that helps worm out some really neat pictures from the past that got overlooked when they were still new…
Here’s one from November of 2017 that caught my eye for this week. The squirrel is mostly in the shadow… but the way the sun shines off of the complete outline of his body makes him look so cool! If you step back from your screen and look at the picture, it actually looks like a total eclipse of the squirrel! Shine on, Saturday Squirrel. Your glowing aura inspires us all…
Have a great weekend everyone!
I like the golden glow all about the squirrel!
P.S. I’m almost done with my CoW!
Happy weekend! :0
That outline is awesome, and I can’t believe I didn’t notice it back when those pictures were new. Can’t wait to see your entry! The first one rolled in this morning, and I’m hoping there will be many more to come (though the enthusiasm this year seems pretty tempered)…
A shining example of squirreldom.
Literally!
😊
Quite shining. Either a squirrel angel, or an escapee from Chernobyl…
He’s got a built-in flashlight for those dark nights……………Love this photo! By the way – just published by entry for the CONTEST OF WHATEVER. Took a lot of liberties with the idea I’m afraid. I’m sure you expect that from those of us who follow THE NEST! Here it is:

Taking liberties with the theme won Aunt Sharon the contest back in 2016. I encourage creativity, and allowing everyone to interpret the theme in a way they deem fitting. Just keep the snakes away from the squirrels, please!
Will do……trust me, I wasn’t overly fond of the google search results for “two snakes fighting” either. LOL
Almost angelic looking bathed in that ethereal glow from beyond.
I just hope his halo doesn’t attract extra attention from Satan’s predators…
An amazing photo, maybe once in a lifetime photo also.
The glow stands out so much, I can’t believe I didn’t notice it earlier…
Truly a great pic, you seem to catch the squirrels in the most interesting ways. Shadow squirrel looks perfect.
It’s the million monkeys typing on a million keyboards eventually writing a work of Shakespeare principle. I’ve taken so many pictures of these guys, I’m bound to have captured just about everything at some point. And yet, I keep getting something new each time…
Precious squirrel capturing the light. Awwwwww.
The halo suits him well…
Hi! I have my C.O.W. almost completed, but I need to ask your permission for something. How do I contact you via email (I know I had your address last year when I won, or so I think I did..umm) so I might gain permission for one portion of my C.O.W. of 2020? Thanks for any info! 🙂
There’s a Contact Me page under “Important Stuff” in my blog’s header that has my email address in it.
I’m glad you’ve got such a backlog. Since we started putting food down on the ground, the squirrels have been ignoring the feeders and eating on the grass. Good for them, bad for my photography 🙂
Depending on the angle, you can get some good pics of them on the grass too. I once got a series of one burying a nut that came out quite well…
I keep thinking when they rush down tree trunks they’re going to crash headfirst into the ground…
That would be awful. Let’s pretend I was standing on my head when I took this picture…
Fantastic photo! I just caught a little guy going under my upstairs balcony–he stopped for a minute and Ken tried to take a picture, but he was wise to us and disappeared!
You’ve got to be both fast and ready… and sometimes even that isn’t enough. They’re hard to capture, but the ones that turn out well make all the effort and patience worth it…
Maybe that’s the stinker that stole the weekend!
