Share Your World – Week 65

Well, at least something is normal around here…

It seems like a million years ago since late Thursday mornings would find me stuffing my fat face with the vast and inedible buffet at Golden Corral.  The withdrawls are a bitch, but at least we can take solace in the fact that it’s helping to slow the spread of indigestion.  Since I can’t indulge in a burnt pork steak or any pot roast smothered in what they call “gravy” right now, I guess I’ll use this time to Share My World with Melanie’s questions for this week, while cows and pigs everywhere delight in their reprieve…

In honor of April Fool’s Day yesterday.

Pancakes, waffles or French Toast as your breakfast favorite?

When on most days you wake up at 8 PM and are in bed by noon the next day, breakfast isn’t really a concept…. certainly not the concept that seems to be so defined in our society that there’s actually certain foods that are considered only fit top eat early in the morning.

It’s 2:00 PM, sir. It’s illegal to eat scrambled eggs at this time.

So ignoring the breakfast part of the question… waffles (the frozen kind) are the only thing I still eat.  And that’s because they’re easy to burn in a toaster.  French toast must be covered with half a box of powdered sugar to be edible, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a pancake.  When I eat at IHOP, I get the chicken strips…

Do you think a person’s name influences the person they become?

That only happens in cartoon universes like The Smurfs or the Care Bears, where each character just happened to develop the personality trait associated with the name they were given by their sadistic parents at birth.  For example, there is someone I work with whose real, LEGAL first name is “Prettyboy.”  He did not, in fact, grow up to be pretty…

Further proof: Dick Trickle did not grow up to be a porn star.

Would things get better or worse if humans focused on what was going well rather than what’s going wrong?

Focus on what you want, but what’s going well for one person is going wrong for someone else.  I find this out every time I go to the casino…

It couldn’t hurt to shut the fucking news off, though…

Is math(s) something that humans created or something we discovered? Is looking at reality mathematically an accurate representation of how things work?

Wow, this question is deep…. just like shit at The Nest.

Math and numbers in general are man made concepts designed to help us understand how our world works.  Your mean old algebra teacher was correct when they told you that you’ll need to know this stuff when you grow up…

And New Math is a man made concept for people who think kids have better things to do than understand how our world works.

What are you grateful for right now?

The annoying unknown/spam/scam calls have almost completely disappeared the past few weeks.  The silence from my phone lately has been pleasantly deafening…. but so much for the idea that all of those uninvited calls come from some illegitimate businesses and foreign con artists, who I doubt would be observing any kind of quarantine…

This’ll give you a coronary…

  1. we think math is a created and invented thing… only there to smash the dreams of a genius who became the f-girl, just because of this f-ing number stuff… ;O))))))))))))

  2. You know I hadn’t even realized we aren’t getting those idiotic robo calls the last couple of weeks but we haven’t! I guess those dumbos who sit in those huge rooms full of phones are practicing social distancing??? Good! Maybe there is something GOOD about this hideous virus after all.

  3. Ally Bean says:

Waffles. Definitely waffles. Not that anyone is asking me, but it someone did I’d say waffles. So you know…

  4. Rivergirl says:

Dick Trickle is NOT a porn star? The world just doesn’t make sense anymore….

  5. Thank you so much for providing your light hearted Share Your World perspective! There is a huge dearth of mirth right now, and I know visiting the ‘Nest will always make me smile, if not outright laugh! 😆 Math, in my opinion, was ‘created’ to cause certain of us great anxiety and give the pharmaceutical companies something to do. Yeah…. Stay safe Squirrel. I don’t know if Mecca has begun to suggest their employees stay in their nests or not, but in any case, be careful out there.

    • Grocery retail is considered essential, so we’re not going anywhere… which is nice because I’d rather be at work than cowering from some silly virus. And there will still always be time for me to come up with mirthfully irreverent answers to these questions each week…

It’s always a trip visiting ‘your world’ 🙂
Hope you and the kitties are doing well and keeping safe.

  7. Maybe all the scammers and spammers are dead. Wouldn’t that be GREAT?

  8. Trisha says:

I didn’t even realize it until you mentioned it but I haven’t gotten any annoying robo calls lately either. It seems funny that a company that tries to scam people would obey a lockdown order but it seems they are. Now watch, I’ll get a bunch of calls tomorrow….

I hope things return to normal so you can get back to your Thursday morning breakfasts at the Golden Corral very soon. My routine hasn’t been changed all that much but I’m still getting a bit cranky about all this. I miss normal.

    • It’s funny, because while my work routine has remain unchanged, it’s my off time that is being steamrolled by these uncalled for lockdowns. I guess I should start taking advantage of the unlimited overtime Mecca’s offering, but I’m too damned lazy to do it!

  9. I still loathe my algebra teacher. It didn’t make sense back in high school and it hasn’t changed 87 years later.

The relationship between humans and nature is an interesting one when it comes to math–for example, the Fibonacci sequence in seashells, which is so cool. It almost makes me like math!

    • Fibonacci is all over nature, as is the Golden Ratio. And the two are even connected in a really weird way. There was a show on PBS when I was a kid called Square One TV, which really did make math cool…. and unlike Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers, it was aimed more at teens, so it was radical along with being educational!

I do hope the temperature shown on that thermometer is in “the Fahrenheit” or you’re about to burst into flames…

    • To think that 98.6 is such an iconic number in America, and apparently America only. They even did a song about it… and I just realized I haven’t heard this in ages, so I’ll need to make a DVA out of it after the countdown!

      • draliman says:

I immediately thought “Suzanne Vega” but apparently her song was “99.9F”. She must have been running a fever when she wrote it.
