As much as I love sharing my own photos of squirrels on this blog every Saturday, I also get a kick out of featuring other people’s sciurines from time to time…. especially when they are so much cuter than anything I have ever seen before! This photo was taken by Suzanne of My Dang Blog, and when she included it in her post last Sunday, I just had to ask if I could give this adorable little baby the even wider audience it deserves by making it my Saturday Squirrel!
The black furred mutation of the common grey squirrel is typically found in Canada and the northern parts of the US…. but sadly, I live too far south to see these pretty ebony variants. So I always enjoy when someone can post a few photos of one…. but to get not only a black squirrel, but an adorable little pup to boot! This little guy instantly became one of my favorite squirrels ever!
A big thanks to Suzanne for giving me permission to share this photo! And I’d love to see more of this guy in the future if possible!
Have a great weekend everyone!
He’s adorable! Looks like he found a snack in that aluminum pie pan…..love his little ears !
A winner for sure……..
Pam
He’s cute all over! One of the cutest I’ve ever seen…
A black squirrel. Do special, so cute. Thank you for sharing this, I have never seen before.
I have only seen pictures of them. I live on the wrong part of the continent to get any pictures of them ,myself…
We’ve never had a black beauty. Nice to see one….
They may be even more regional than I thought. They’re a mutation of the grey, so you never know when one might appear around you…
We have grey… and a very destructive pair of red that have decided to meet in our big barn. That idea is not going over well with my other half.
Ruh roh! I hope they don’t break any of the “prized possessions” in there….
Thank you so much for featuring him! Isn’t he the sweetest little thing? We’ve been leaving nuts out for him and his family so I hope to get more pictures of him😊
That is really one of the cutest squirrels I’ve seen! I definitely look forward to more pictures of him!
I live in Northern Virginia and we have lots of black squirrels, supposedly they are descended from escapees of the National Zoo in Washington DC…
I did not know they had another domain! And that’s an interesting backstory. Black squirrels would be one of the rare good things to come out of DC!
Black squirrels matter.
Word
It is too cute and sweet, I’m getting a cavity just looking at him/her…🐿
Try explaining to a dentist that you got a cavity from a squirrel. He’ll think you’re nuts…
Thank you, I’ll be here all week….
That is an unbelievably cute picture. 🙂 Here are some others for you: https://wordsfromanneli.com/2020/05/14/table-for-one/
Anneli does great posts about her resident squirrel, Lincoln. Have a great weekend. 🙂
Thanks for introducing me to Lincoln! I love the storytelling with squirrel pics!
Borrowing anything from Suzanne is among the smartest things that one can do. Squirrel away, my friend!
I’ll gladly mooch off of anyone who posts such cute squirrel photos…
I was feeling bummed out a little. Spring fever (not the C-19 kind! Just sayin’!) and ennui have bitten me in my tail, and then I espied your ‘toxic cuteness’ of black squirrel baby. What a darling. Thank YOU for spreading the joy! 🙂
I love seeing successful squirrel therapy in action…
Aw! I didn’t know they came in black.
Grey, brown, black, white, red, and I’ve even seen blonde. I’m still hoping to find a rainbow squirrel someday….
Oh my goodness that is one precious little squirrel. I’ve never even heard of a black squirrel. It made me take a second look thinking you’d posted a baby skunk. Thank you for this cutie. Thank you too Suzanne.
I thought I had borrowed another black squirrel pic from someone before to show here, but now that I think about it… this may be the first official black Saturday Squirrel. A long time ago, I did a post about a photo of a black squirrel the wife of a co-worker took on their trip to Canada… which I even painted during my brief acrylics phase 10 years ago. It’s still up on my wall next to the painting I did of my black cat Spilly…
You just jogged my memory. You did and it was cute and surprising. This one is exceptionally cute. It is beyond Vlad cute.

He really is adorable. Looks like our flying ones, but without wing flaps. Our regular squirrels are breeding and apparently they do this by chasing each other in circles and up and down trees and staircases, etc. it’s pretty funny, but they do look like they are having fun. That little black guy, now THAT is one cute squirrel!
Squirrel chases are a big part of the entertainment value of watching squirrels. They’ll do it even when they aren’t horny…
That may just be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! I saw an adult black squirrel an hour and a half north of where I live and I saw a gigantic black squirrel in California (maybe, it looked like a squirrel but was the size of a raccoon!) but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo of a baby black squirrel. Certainly not one as cute as this little guy!
That’s a big squirrelcoon! You have one up on me if you’ve seen a real, live black squirrel before. All I have are other people’s pictures….
You should head this way sometime, we’ve got black squirrels all over the place.
I did not know they were in more places than just up north. We don’t even have the brown colored squirrels where I live, just greys…
The city across the river from me, Council Bluffs IA, is known for black squirrels I guess. We have a few in our neighborhood. The guy down the street from me sets out a squirrel buffet year-round.
D’oh! What an adorable little squirrel! 😀
It’s extremely cute! I wish I could take picture of him..
