My camera I’ve been using for almost seven years now has a pretty good zoom on it. It let me take this photo of a squirrel romping in the yard two houses down from me, while I was standing just outside my front door over 100 feet away. As hard as it is to get a moving squirrel in a traditional shot, trying to get one on screen and in focus with the zoom cranked almost all the way up with little margin for error is nearly impossible. And even if you do get something good, as I did here clearly capturing this guy jumping forward with a big nut in his mouth, the image is still going to end up a bit grainy. You can’t see it as much in the scaled down image that appears on my blog page… but if you click the image for full size, you can definitely see how pixelated it looks. Almost like it had been run through a Photoshop filter, but it wasn’t…
But no matter how far away and grainy these Saturday Squirrels may get from me, they still look very photogenic and worth showing off! Each and every week….
Have a great weekend everyone!
Cool to get that photo – he looks happy and in fact if you didn’t know he’d scored a nut he looks like he’s got a HUGE smile on his face!
Pam
The nut in mouth does sometimes substitute for a happy face…. which I think will foreshadow one of the squirrels that appears in my next park run, since the same illusion makes him look like one happy dude!
My problem is having to take squirrel shots through the windows. If I’m outside, they run.
Most of my pictures in my yard are out my back windows, though I do open them to get a clear shot. I’ve tried taking pictures through the glass if I thought I either didn’t have time, or would scare them away… and yeah, they look pretty drab.
I like the pixelated version as well as the smaller one. It’s difficult to snap a photo of squirrels, except for my old friend Fuzzy who as all about the glamour shots. May he RIP.
It’s very difficult when they’re so far away. I miss Fuzzy…. and no doubt, he’s still looking down on you. Maybe with something in his paw to throw…..
even if imperfect, it’s always fun to see these moments in time captured
I agree!
Cute!
Absolutely. If you hadn’t mentioned it, I doubt anyone would have known either. To me? I’d have prudently back off a very safe distance because that squirrel? Looks prepared to defend his nut (s) (snicker) to the death. Great shot!
I would probably defend my nuts if I thought someone was after them…
I know it’s a nut but it looks like he’s yelling “Whoopeee!!”
It does, and since photography counts as art, the squirrel can be anything you want it to be!
He looks very happy with his nuts…
All three of them…
So cute! I rarely can catch a photo of a squirrel coming toward me. I usually end up with a blank frame or just the tip of the tail.
I don’t have many either…. at least not good ones you can really make out. The one I took about six years ago of one running up my street towards me (I think also with a nut in his mouth) is my favorite one…. but he looks more sinister where this squirrel looks quite joyful!
This little guy does look quite joyful!
He looks happy to see you!
