Grab your walking stick and a bag of trail mix, as it’s time for The Nest to take you on another hike through my local park as expressed through lots of cute squirrel pictures! My fourth trip was taken on the morning of Friday August 28, 2015… and it’s one of the smaller park sets I have at just 35 images surviving the cut. But there’s still a whole lot of goodness within that small album, and yet again, the very first image makes for an excellent title card! I think it’s safe to say that I took some crappy pictures before that one which I dumped in the recycling bin, because having the first squirrel I see be in a tree is a rarity.
While it’s still typically hot during late summer in the Midwest, the squirrels don’t care and only have nut harvesting for the winter on their mind. And that will be the theme that drives this set…
We don’t have near enough brown coloring in the squirrels around here, so I’m always pleased to find one who does. And with such a handsome profile!
Silly squirrels trying to pull a prank! When I first posted this photo five years ago, I was asked if I knew what I had here when I actually took the photo…. and yes, I did! Sometimes the humor in my photos is immediately apparent…
What’s better than finding an acorn? Finding three acorns!
It’s like cleaning off a popsicle stick!
Oh, well hello there!
Oh great. Another squirrel with dreams of fame and fortune just because he made my blog…
This would have been a fantastic picture, if….. you know….. the camera didn’t think I wanted the background to be in focus.
Don’t mess with wild-eyed crazy squirrels that have nuts in their mouth…
Oh, you think you’ve got big nuts?
This squirrel has BIG NUTS!!!
This photo is one of the prizes of my collection! That “tennis ball” in the squirrel’s mouth is actually a freshly fallen walnut. The nut we know as a walnut is inside of that hard green casing. How in the heck that squirrel can climb that tree with that huge orb that’s bigger than its head is baffling… but another sign of how amazing squirrels are!
Oops, sorry about that old squirrel. You’re still cute and all, but I see you do need a lot of beauty sleep…
Cute little squirrel on a hill in the park. This hill will play a part in the signature photo from my next trip, which you’ll see next Tuesday…
The obligatory picture of a squirrel looking at me like I’m a dumbass….
It’s not often I can catch the squirrels near the garden path where there’s lot of pretty scenery, but I found this guy enjoying a snack near the “mountain.”
And that will conclude this week’s retro adventure! We’ll do this again next week…
a 10 ft. squirrel… omg run!
It’s just like a dachshund, only the 10 foot squirrel won’t bite your ankles…
Squirrel with acorn. It doesn’t get any more iconic than that.
Nope. But squirrel with tennis ball looks so much cooler…
Awesome pics. Where are the evil squirrels, though? Asking for a friend. Mona
They’re only there at night. And luckily, my flash doesn’t work. Flashing in the park is frowned upon anyway….
That closeup is a gem……and the guy with the BIG SCORE of three nuts – well – what can I say? This was a great batch of squirrely photos!!
Pam
I’d be pleasantly surprised if I found three nuts too! Though I’d wonder where the other one came from…
Indeed……..a magical medical miracle purrrhaps?
I’m not sure how the squirrel’s actually going to access the walnut. Does he have a little hammer and chisel set in his den? Or whatever a squirrel’s home is called…
You never know what squirrels have hidden in their nests. He might have a little dynamite on hand…
I’m glad to see you’re still active. I’ve posted teen squirrel pics twice in the last 7 days and no comments. Great smorgasbord of squirrel pics, as always! 🙂
Ack! Reading’s been so difficult lately because I’m trying to avoid all of the gloom and doom out there! I shall go check out your cuties immediately, if not sooner!
Seems like a whole lotta peek-a-boo going on in the park.
Well, what good is a park if you can’t play in it…
You got so many cute pics! I love it when the squirrels ham it up and pose for the camera. That arm tuck thing they do is so cute!
We have two huge black walnut trees on our property and the squirrels love them–they also love to bury them and then we get saplings coming up all over the yard!
Those crafty squirrels! I watched as one took an enormous leap from the back of a chair on our deck, barely making it to the suet feeder – where he or she proceeded to munch on the red pepper suet. I had to move the chair further away – and watched while the squirrel debated whether to try the leap again!
