Tail Of Stone

Next time, maybe put a little less starch in your tail?

The big, fluffy tails of squirrels are a big part of what makes squirrels the amazing creatures they are.  They use them for a variety of purposes, from keeping cool and dry, to signaling other squirrels, to even helping to balance themselves while doing those death defying aerial maneuvers.

And of course, sometimes they can get captured in pretty amusing positions.

This squirrel’s doing his best to help you learn about the Pythagorean theorem by bending his tail at a firm 90 degree angle.  You could use the end of his tail as a stool if you wanted to.

He could be imitating those “slap bracelets” that will bend in a shape exactly like his tail.

Perhaps he’s a squirrel of the 80’s and still has a can of Aqua Net in his nest that he liberally used to glue his tail in place?

Or maybe this is how squirrels “walk like an Egyptian.”

Before this week’s cute Saturday Squirrel finds a way to flip me off with his tail, I’ll stop with the silly references now…

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Maybe he’s got it up there so his girlfriend can more easily spot him in the clover!

I think he’s practicing his waiting skills. That tail would make a great tray holder…

  3. You have a great weekend too. 🙂

    Maybe he’s voguing!

  5. I think his tail would make an awesome fan. I want a squirrel to col me off with his tail. I’ll go ask the squirrel behind our house.

That is an odd looking tail! It could just be because the fur is so thin but it looks freakishly long too. Or, maybe it just looks that way to me because the only squirrel I saw today was Whitey and the end of his tail has been bobbed off a bit.

    • Yeah, I think it’s the rat tail effect. That tail wouldn’t look extra long if it weren’t so thin… the same way thin people always look taller than they are. I like how so many of your squirrels have tail irregularities, while for me (at least at the park) it’s a bunch of weird looking ear carvings!

He looks to me like he’s spotted something and is ready to pounce!

  8. Starch in the tail? Walk like an Egyptian? Oh boy, you were on a roll with this post. It made me chuckle out loud. Well done. 🐿

No, you cannot have a squirrel for Christmas, you’ll poke your eye out!
