Share Your World – Week 84

Harry Possum and his Magic Spork attempt to defeat the dragon. I can’t imagine who will emerge victorious…

Share Your World’s gone all Aughts on us this week, with questions inspired by that one book series about the wizards and warts on pigs, or something.  I can’t remember what it was called… only that I’ve never read one word of the books nor seen any of the movies.  Yeah, take that, J.K. Rowling!  I’m singlehandedly putting you in the poor house!

Because of this wizardly hijacking, Melanie came up with two sets of questions for this week.  The Nest will be answering them both, of course, because it means there’s a greater chance we might accidentally utter something inspiring and/or hilarious… lest this post be just another waste of pixels on an already sewage filled blog…

This looks kinda magical and stuff…

Many of the local SPCA’s are having an influx of animals. You have decided that you would love to have a new pet. Would you go the normal wizardry route and pick an owl, a cat, or a toad? Or would you become a more eccentric wizard (like Hagrid, the games keeper) and seek out a three-headed dog, a dragon, or a unicorn?

There is nothing more gratifying than giving a forever home to a shelter unicorn that was rescued from the horrors of a horsey mill.

Mitzi’s totally ready for her appearance in a Sarah McLachlan ASPCA commercial…

Neville Longbottom was gifted a Remembrall. This was a glass ball that would assist you in maintaining memories of things that you often forget. What would you want your Remembrall to help you remember?

The corny, low quality ads for Remembrall that would always air during daytime TV back in the 80’s… usually during game shows.  It definitely sounds like a pill for old people to use only as directed while they relax in their Craftmatic Adjustable Chairs

My aging mind has forgotten the darndest things…

Professor Dumbledore gave Harry Potter an invisibility cloak that Dumbledore said was from Harry’s father. Now, you have inherited a cloak with similar powers. Would you use it? When?

Man, this cloak is really stylish!  I’d wear it everywhere I wanted to be noticed!  Here, let me send you a selfie…

Hope you don’t mind me showing off a bit of the manly chest hair..

While cleaning your attic, you have discovered the Mirror of Erised. (“Erised” is “desire” spelled backwards, as if reflected in a mirror) The Mirror of Erised is a magical mirror, which, according to Professor Dumbledore, when you gaze into it, it shows the “deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts.” You have chosen to look in the mirror. What do you see?

Ahhhh, Kentucky Fried Owl…

Would You Rather Live 120 Years That Are Comfortable But Boring, Or Live Half As Long, But Have An Exciting Adventure Packed Life?

I prefer comfort and boring, but 120 years is a LONG time.  I already feel like death warmed over some days.  At least senior living has advantages now that it didn’t in the past…

Though by the time you get to this age, 4:20 is usually bedtime…

What’s Something That Overwhelms You?

You can be overwhelmed and underwhelmed, but is it possible to just be whelmed?  Hmmmm, let’s see…

whelm/(h)welm/  1. engulf, submerge, or bury (someone or something)  2. flow or heap up abundantly.

Geez, it seems like being whelmed is more than sufficient when we mean we’re over burdened by something… which puts this in the “irregardless” and “more pregnant” category of abuses against our English language…

You better start answering the questions and stop being a smart aleck before I whelm you with this ruler, young man!!!

What Do or DID You Take For Granted?

I took nothing for Granted!  Granted is more than capable of getting his own things…

You’re gonna regret that one day, son, when I end up on the fifty dollar bill.

Gratitude:   Please feel free to share some gratitude moments or… (loud record needle scratch)

There will be no gratitude this week.  Nope.

So instead, I’ll finish like I did a few weeks ago with another themed selection of classic Evil Squirrel’s Nest comic strips that so many of you loved and wish I’d never had to abandon.  This one will be dedicated to one of my strip’s more oddball characters, the Pigladillo!

Isn’t he just adorable?

When my laughable attempt to draw an armadillo critter many years ago was confused with Winnie’s friend Piglet, the Pigladillo was born.  He tended to serve as a background character in many of my comics, usually with Buster… but he got to be front and center a few times.  Enjoy the best of the Pigladillo!

  1. omg yes… that cloak!!! love your selfie!! I would wear it day and night ooooh yeah… but I hope it works better than the shit ring from my cereals box what promised the same but was a hoax…

  2. Great to see those old comics………….Pigladillo was one of my faves too. I know ZIP about J.K. Rowling’s books – I know that’s practically an act of treason but I really just didn’t have TIME to read those incredibly huge books. I hear the whole thing was “so magical” but I get the same thrill from a strawberry margarita.

    • I almost wish I knew enough about the Harry Potter world to do a SCT spoof of it. It would be interesting to see what Rowling’s world would be different with the likes of Fuzzywig, Mitzi, Snuggle and Rainy lurking around. And if any of the spells need blood, Zeeba will be the top wizard (or is it wizardess?)

  3. Thanks Bill um erm.. do you prefer Mr. Evil Squirrel? I never did ask…. for Sharing Your Amazing World!! You dug up Art Linkletter (yeah, I know. I just gave away the fact that I’m so old, I make that woman smoking the incredibly huge Jay Jay look young. Tell me did she raid ‘the Good Stuff’ to make that thing? Did she leave any for the raccoon? I bet he was hacked off if she nabbed it ALL!)! Nod to your archivist skills!! I’m very glad you rescued a unicorn. I doubt Snuggle’s ‘world’ would be the same if he couldn’t get his softener stiffened now and then…uh. I hope no children are reading this, but I was trying to be subtle.

AMAZING cartoons. You have mad skills Bill E.S. and you ought to submit them for perusal in that ‘who’s your favorite artist’ prompt that’s going around. Self love is nothing to be ashamed of (and man, did that sound wrong, it was meant as a compliment though!)

    • Either/or is fine. I’m also known by an assortment of pet names and slurs, and I have a genuine “Evil Genius” nameplate one of my readers sent me. I’m not going to go out and pat myself on the back, but I think I will dump some comics on my SYW answers every few weeks or so, or at least when I don’t have something nice for the gratitude section. I love rediscovering my old work, and admiring how tame it all is compared to the series (SCT) that replaced it…

  4. Mer O'Leary says:

Wow, it’s my lame Merbear I made many years ago when I still identified as a bear…on a poster!
They never did catch me for all the bong reasons…

    • With all of the stuff I worked into the background, digging up my old comics is like unearthing a time capsule. I noticed that and laughed as well! Most people would be surprised that I was into Good Stuff humor before Fuzzywig came around…

  5. I mean, who can resist a purple and green scaled dragon? Not this Ranch hand. And Pigladillo? Makes Mitzi seem homely. Despite JK’s ahem..somewhat bizzaro life notions, she could definitely weave some magical prose. Nice job making her look sane.

  6. rogershipp says:

Your pictures were grand!!! Very clever!!! Thanks for trying out the Potter questions this week. Stay safe!

  7. What a treat! A whole set of comics! That was fabuloso, my evil friend. Thank you!

  8. draliman says:

I never thought of “whelm” being a word in its own right! Poor little word, lost and forgotten…

  9. Trisha says:

It was good to see cute little Pigladillo again! I always liked the one where Buster turns himself into a Piñata.
