The squirrels I live around aren’t tame by any means, and they have a rightful mistrust of people. The only way to get pictures of them is to either be far enough away from them so they aren’t concerned with you, or in a position where they can’t see you. For a closeup overhead shot like the picture you see above, I obviously had to do the latter. Most of the squirrel pictures I take around my house are through one of the rear windows of my home… and once I’ve been there long enough, the squirrels tend to forget the voyeur in the window. Every once in a while, they’ll come close enough to the window to get a shot like this, where they’re almost right under me. It’s a unique view on the familiar eating squirrel profile…
The Nest will keep its eye in the sky looking out for more cute Saturday Squirrels…
Have a great weekend everyone!
That’s a great shot and it ALMOST looks like that guy found a piece of candy corn to munch on!!
Pam
Well, it certainly is corn that I put out for them! With all the acorns that have fallen in my yard, I guess they get tired of the same old thing and love the corn I occasionally leave for them…
They do love corn…..the squirrels around here are partial to sunflower seeds but I think they would eat ANYTHING they can get their tiny paws wrapped around!
so cute! and squirrels are no fools )
Their perception of the world around them is remarkable…
That’s a perfectly lovely shot.
Thanks. The squirrel makes it lovely. I’m just their publicity agent…
Then well done sir…
Sometimes they like to taunt the huMom by staying very close. They probably realize she can’t climb trees.
Your fur-iends,
Norman & Elsa 🐾
Boy will they be in for a surprise when she rushes up there after them! Be sure to have the camera ready…
That squirrel looks fat and sassy, wearing his pre-Winter coat and obviously beefin’ (corning) up for the coming cold! Wonderful shot – it’s so gratifying when one gets such a snap!
The pre-winter coat will come in handy for the autumnlike temps this week! Warm, but not hot during the day…. cool but not cold at night. Would it be too much trouble to have this all year long?
He thinks I can’t see him behind his window, but there will be a reckoning…
If that reckoning is bombarding my roof with acorns day and night….. well, they got me!
Great photo. Thanks, you have a good weekend too.
Great photo. The squirrels around my house are not afraid of me when I’m in the pool – I swim up and down doing laps and they come right down to the water to drink. Maybe it’s because I feed them a ton of acorns in the fall?
If I were outside a lot, they might warm up to me…. but even in the days when I paid a lot of attention to my backyard squirrels, I mainly stayed inside.
That’s great–I wouldn’t have even known it was shot through a window if you hadn’t said so–very clear!
I should clarify (no pun intended!) that it was taken through an OPEN window! I’ve taken closed window shots before, and yeah…. they won’t look like that!
Oh! But it’s still a great shot!
What a great shot! I don’t think I have any squirrels photos where the camera is above them. Usually it’s the other way around and they’re looking down at me!
Yeah, I realized when I was trying to come up with an Saturday Squirrel angle for this one that what made this one so odd was the looking down angle. It’s easy (well, relatively) to capture a squirrel looking up, but rarely looking down!
What a precious little squirrel. Awwwwwwwwww
