I’d like to say that this week’s muzak post is late because it took me many hours to figure out how to compose it on this stupid virtual garbage the Crappiness Engineers at WordPress have foisted upon us…. but no, I was just slacking. We need a good tune to help turn this Monday into a Classic Monday… and this is the day The Nest searches for another classic song out of that classic archive of classic music we like to call the Dusty Vinyl Archive! DJ Scratchy can handle two turntables and a soundboard all at the same time… but even she can’t figure out this block shit. While the Sponkies….. well, kids know all the latest technology. Let’s try and capture that classic mood…
When I was brainstorming songs that would be relevant to the virtual changeover that has many of us old time bloggers fuming, I immediately thought of my favorite Sheryl Crow song. And when I say “favorite Sheryl Crow song,” that really doesn’t mean much. Crow’s roots are close enough to my hometown for her to be considered a local product… but I’m not a homer by nature, and I’m certainly not much of a fan of most of her music.
But this 1997 song is definitely an exception. I love it, and it was successful in most of the countries whose inhabitants read my blog…. even in the US where it was not an official Top 40 hit because the charts were so rigged towards gangsta rap and R&B divas at the time, that Billboard actually had to change its ratings formula the following year to make the Top 40 somewhat more diverse again. So this is not really a lost hit, but it’s still a good one, and what I’m sure the powers that be at Turdpress are gleefully singing for all of us…
Now that’s a Sheryl Crow song you can actually clap along to and sing out loud! Especially that leadoff line to the second verse which is one of my all time favorite bits of lyric in any song…
Poor guy. And poor us!
I shall return with another lost CLASSIC next Monday…. if my blog doesn’t get terminated with extreme prejudice.
Oh, I seriously doubt that the Crappiness Engineers (*snicker*) at Turdpress (BWAHAHAHHA) will f*ck around with the Nest. The fall out from that (and not in acorns neither) would be massive enough to sink their smelly ship right fast. BUT. Two pillars of the blogging community – Fandango and Marilyn, have made it clear that they ‘ain’t gonna take it’ (another dusty gem) and are leaving as soon as their pre-paid dues are spent. All courtesy of the $%#!@ block editor. Some others of us (me among them) who don’t pay and never ever will either have decided to follow those two pillars IF they find more fertile blogging ground elsewhere. I smell a big disaster on the wind, which has nothing to do with any kind of ‘team’ spirit (yeah, yeah, Kurt Cobain will have to get over me tweaking his famous lyrics)..
I vowed after the first new editor fiasco six years ago to never give WP a cent of my money given the unilateral way they seem to do things without regards to how their customers feel. Unless they get a cut of my domain registration fee (Which they probably do, bastards), they’ve still never seen a cent of Evil Squirrel’s acorn stash…
I really hate the new editor it is made by stan laurel and oliver hardy… but I like the song… well at least DJ Scratchy is still the same one who really rocks..
I think the Three Stooges helped with the editor as well, and WordPress could use a few eye pokes…
Good song. Can’t remember hearing it before, but I like most all her songs. 🙂
It was a staple of variety radio about two decades ago… but I haven’t heard it in a while myself.
I like that song. Good pick. 🙂
Thanks, from Sheryl and me!
I think a change of scenery would do me good, like a trip to somewhere slightly less run by a damn Cheeto.
Uranus?
Butt of course….
Love the song and curse the new wp editor every day
Agree, agree!
A snappy tune by Miss Crow that makes you want to move. As for the block editor, I’ve been on the record in the blog-asphere as well as with the cheerful happiness engineers that it sucks. Luckily I bookmarked the classic editor and am using it.If I’m not mistaken you can drill down miles in your panel to find and use it. Good luck. At least good tunes and the classic editor keep me sorta happy and content.
Have you tried it? I think all end-arounds have been taken away now. Even clicking on the “Switch to Classic Editor” link takes you to the block editor now. I used the bookmark thing for five years, but it goes to block now…
I did an extended try of the block editor, trying desperately to like it. Sadly that dog didn’t hunt. So far 🤞🏻my bookmark is still working.
Good luck keeping it. I wonder if your classic is the “new classic” that was unilaterally instituted in 2014. That may still be up and running, but Ye Olde Classic many of us old timers used for years seems to have bitten the dust.
Nevermind…. I found it!!!!
I’ve never really known whether I like Sheryl Crow or not but I do know I’ve totally had it with change! Nothing works like it used to and it really pisses me off. And, once you learn how something works, it either changes again or you get notified that your fucking storage for it is full and there’s never an easy way to clean out your fucking iCloud or OneDrive or whatever piece of shit storage thing they’re trying to make you pay monthly to upgrade.
LOL, I don’t know what an iCloud or a OneDrive is…. but I’ll bet the experience is much like Photobucket, where I stored my pictures for years… and it’s now such a convoluted mess of ads that you literally can NOT use it unless you fork over money. I’ve pretty much given up on what I had over there…. most of the stuff I wanted to save is either on a memory stick or uploaded here on my blog.
Ugh. Ads ruin everything! And the annoying ones that interrupt what I’m doing are a waste because I’m never giving my $ to a company who knocks on my door or disturbs what I’m doing with their stupid ads.
As for OneDrive…I don’t know what it is either but my laptop sends everything there. I’m hoping it’s not my actual hard drive. But if it is, at least I know how to delete stuff from there. Maybe.
Yep – the new editor stinks. I’ve tried to follow everyone’s “hints” but I still find it ridiculously time consuming and unnecessarily complicated – can’t imagine that anyone thinks it’s “GREAT” or “FABULOUS” but I’m curious if all the complaining might possibly lead to CHOICE. Anyone who opts for something more complicated to use as an editor is – well – nutso. I wasn’t familiar with Sheryl Crow’s music other than the ones that got air time. This one is good!
Pam
I hope you were able to find it from my tip yesterday. I wouldn’t have even been prodding around had Tails not mentioned she was still getting classic to work… and there it was hidden in not so plain sight!
My daughter hates it when I say that I’m on my rag. But hey…that’s what my mom called it.
“Hang loose, mother goose, your rag is dripping with tomato juice!”
Thanks for the rhyme, mom. Bless that dirty mind you had!
Yes! God, all the rag humor that ran rampant in my house full of females. And, of course, Christmas gifts in tampon boxes!
That’s a classic right there!
Unless I missed it, you didn’t actually name the song anywhere. I asked Alexa to play “This video is unavailable” by Sheryl Crow but she couldn’t find it.
I’m sure I wouldn’t have liked it anyway…
Ha! I didn’t name it. I blame the block editor. I also blame the block editor for none of my videos being available in the UK…
