For this year’s Squirrel O’Lantern, I decided to take my inspiration from the Shelf critter who’d most enjoy the theme of Halloween. Everyone (and by everyone, I mean Draliman and a few other demented folks) loves Zeeba and her fascination with blood, so here she is carved on a pumpkin having freshly knifed Buster while a shocked squirrel looks on to keep the squirrel o’lantern relevant. Each year it seems like I try to do something more and more intricate, and I think I finally crossed the line this year as this was a disaster. Having pieces of the design accidentally become dislodged is an unavoidable hazard in pumpkin carving, but I’d never lost anything critical before…. until this year. The final cut took out Zeeba’s tail, with a small middle piece getting lost in the pile of punkin pieces. So I used a nail to hold what was left of it in place. Hey, it works for Eeyore…
To see all of my previous Squirrel O’Lanterns, look here!
Alright, it’s Share Your World time! Let’s see what Melanie came up with to challenge our alleged intellect this week…
What’s the tallest building you’ve been to the top of?
I believe the suite we had the contestants’ meeting when I was on Millionaire was on the top floor of the Empire Hotel in New York, which was like the 14th or 15th floor (Maybe really the 13th or 14th if it was built by a triskaidekophobe). There was no view, though. Outside of that, I don’t have much experience with tall buildings, let alone being at the top of them…
What do you do to keep fit?
I go to work. Literally, it’s my main form of exercise and activity… especially during the winter when it’s too cold to be going for walks. I limit my mini-vacays to four or five days now just to keep me from looking like “xxxxxxxxxxxl” man…
What’s your jack-o-lantern carved to look like?
Do you have hope or have you lost it?
I keep my hope on a rope, so I never lose it….
Gratitude:
Have some candy for Halloween!
No wait, that stuff’s nasty!
Here,this candy is much tastier!
It’s just that kind of year
Everyone’s losing their tail…
can we borrow that hope&rope quote please? we need it right now ;O)
Sure! Just be careful when you pick it up…
I really like how you carved the jack-o-lantern! 🙂
Thank you! I have fun making them, even when parts of them fall off…
That lantern is great, you are very talented carver.
Thank you! Even if it did need some reconstructive surgery…
Poor Zeeba – I figured sooner or later someone would take a knife to HER and make HER bleed and sure enough you did it this year! Good work carving (and maiming) – we didn’t do a cat pumpkin this year. Taking a year off from Halloween (as is much of the world).
Pam
Luckily, Buster was around to take all of the wrath when I cut her tail off….
Reese’s monkeys? BWAHAHAHHAHAHA!! Oh my lord. You waited all year to use that pun, didn’t YOU??? (well of course aside from whenever the original strip aired….) Thank you so SO much for Sharing Your World, E.S.! I had a ‘senior’ moment earlier, and you’ve cured me of the distasteful after-shocks of realizing I’m not too sharp some days…. Zeeba would be so disappointed – the knives ’round here are fairly dull…no blood. (she haz a sad..) Thank you too for the AMAZING pumpkin carving that you shared. I was boasting about y’all to someone earlier, when they were of the opinion that nobody carves pumpkins any more. I knew you’d come shinin’ through! Kudos Bill!
The Reese’s comic is seven years old, and it was written before POOP became as popular as it is now thanks to those stupid emojis… so it was even more cutting edge back in 2013. I know we sell a lot of those pumpkin carving sets at Mecca each year, so I’m far from alone in the pumpkin carving community out there!
My ex would be thrilled that you continue using his photo here on your blog!
I have always sucked at pumpkin carving…so don’t feel so bad, ES. A nail is a nail, it does the job!
It must be hard to take a dick pic with one hand on the phone and the other hand holding your gut up…
Bwahaha 😂
Our hope jumped off the rope and now is sitting with a bunch of dope. A year of “things will get better,” has left us not better but just wishing the year would end. We plan to play with Reese’s monkeys this afternoon cause we like peanut butter.
Shoko
Reese’s should make monkey poo shaped treats. Just saying…
We’re hoping there are no trick-or-treating goblins this weekend. A nice quiet evening unwrapping those peanut butter candies would be most welcome.
Unless I’m looking to poison a few rats, I’ll refrain from unwrapping any of those peanut butter candies…
Good strategy. Even fresh those things hit the digestive system like a boulder.
Yay, Zeeba immortalised in pumpkin!
Well, immortalized in a photograph. Now she’s suffering the fate of all my previous squirrel o’lanterns of slowly rotting underneath my oak tree…
