This is the third in a series of Saturday Squirrel spots I’m dedicating to a baby squirrel I spotted in my backyard a couple weeks ago. We already saw the little guy scurry up and down my tree a few times… and as you can see by the picture I led off with this week, he did finally venture onto the ground! It looks like he found something tasty just under the tree…
I know you haven’t been around very long, little guy…. but that tree you live in has been raining acorns for almost two months! I’ll bet you can find some if you venture out just a bit farther…
Of course I’m right. You should listen to your elders…
Well, sure. You want to grow up to be a big and strong healthy squirrel like your folks, don’t you?
Alright, I guess I’ll give him another week to think about whether or not he wants to eat an acorn or not. Be sure to tune in next week to see if our baby squirrel is going to stuff his face or not…
Have a great weekend everyone!
we hope it will become da squirrel king once.. it looks like that and we cross all paws for the little prince ;O)
There are enough acorns there for him to be fed like a king…
He’s so darn cute……I hope he stays well away from the road although you being on a cul-de-sac helps a lot!!
Pam
He’s plenty away from the road. Hopefully he’ll stay away from the ditch if there’s a flood…
Such a little cutie. I’ll trade you 5 red squirrels…. ready for shipping!
Hmmmmm….. that’s tempting. Just be sure to poke some holes in the box.
Once they’re outta here? I wish them nothing but a long happy life….
Adorable!
And next week’s pics will be even more adorabler!
He is SO CUTE! ❤ ❤ ❤ I hope he eats all his acorns so he does grow up big and bushy like his parents! Thanks for that bit of sweetness on this Halloween Day!
I just hope he’s still hanging in there since I have yet to see him again (albeit, I don’t check outside too much). And the adults need to teach him to stay away from the transformer on the pole that’s blown three of his kin up already this year…
Amongst those leaves, I have a better idea of just how small this little cutie is. Just hope he stays away from the roasted nuts. They’re bad for the cholesterol.
Some of the pics I’ll be posting next Saturday have him next to some piles of acorns, and I think they really drive home how small he is. But it doesn’t stop him from trying to eat them! And no squirrel in their right mind cares about their cholesterol given how short their time is to frolic about anyway…
Obviously. Given all manner of garbage they nosh upon, it’s a wonder the species has survived.
Awwww, he’s so cute and so tiny! I think I’ve only seen baby squirrels out of the nest at that tender age once or twice in all the years I’ve been watching squirrels here. Our babies are getting so big that sometimes I have to look really close to tell that they’re the babies.
I’d definitely never seen a squirrel that small before… I wasn’t even aware squirrels had babies this late in the year. I keep looking out the window for him every so often, but have only seen adult squirrels in the yard since then…
I hope he’s okay. When we had the two baby squirrels that were that small, it didn’t end well for either one of them. Trouble, who never bothered any of the other squirrels, got one of them. 😢
Aw! I hope he’s careful down there and stays within scurrying distance of his tree.
If he goes farther than the sound of his mother’s voice, he’s in big trouble…
I think he’s getting even cuter if that’s possible!
Next week will raise the cuteness bar even higher…
This little bitty baby is so precious. Oh my goodness.
And it was not spooked when I opened the window… I may have been able to go outside to it and cuddle him. But that wouldn’t have been a good idea for numerous reasons…
Lands sake alive! Des here acorns need something like a bit of sauce. Perhaps the tree has some sap it wishes to part with. Anyway this a -CORN is dry as a popcorn…puttt
OMG, he is so little and scrawny! I gathered acorns from a friend’s yard and piled them up next to known squirrel tress and the bird feeder. Now that I’ve moved, it will take a while before I discover where the squirrels are!
The poor little guy might not have had a real meal before. Once he hits those acorns, he’ll be nice and chubby in time for winter…
He’s adorable. Little bugger.
