From high upon his perch in the tallest tree of the land, this squirrel warrior surveys his territory. Always on the lookout for any signs of trouble or unrest, he keeps a keen eye on all parts of the kingdom. The stealthiest cat wouldn’t stand a chance of fooling this watchdog. No yappy canine is going to corner one of his subjects while he’s on guard. And if the threat comes from the air, this squirrel will be ready to fire acorns and spiky sweet gum balls at the invading hawk squadron. This amazing sciurine eye in the sky can see it all in any direction. One can only stop and stare in amazement as this…
Yes, even the intrepid park photographer can not escape the attention of this mighty protector of the realm. The dangers I will risk to bring you these fierce Saturday Squirrels in the wild…
Have a great weekend everyone!
He does look like a very alert squirrel – checking far and wide for danger (or peeping toms). I for one appreciate the danger you face capturing Saturday Squirrels for your readers. As a watcher of squirrels myself I’m always glad to see that all four corners of the globe are under sciurine scrutiny!
Pam
They sure are under scrutiny… and if anything looks afoul, you best believe everyone will hear about it from the squirrel! Glad to see you’re back!
You’d better be careful. That fellow looks capable of filing a restraining order…
😉
How many feet would I have to stay away from him? And would that include the vertical distance from ground to tree? I think I’ll still be able to legally stalk him…
I hope so.
Beware O puny human! Super Squirrel The Mighty is on watch! At the very least you can expect a severe scolding for venturing into his territory; at the worst a large acorn will hit you in the eye! (you take the most amazing squirrel photos, you always catch their expressions and the photos are clear and not fuzzy. Simply amazing!) Thanks Bill for sharing your squirrels, they sure brighten my day!
I certainly wouldn’t have expected squirrels to be so expressionistic before I started paying attention to them like this… but I’ve captured some great faces over the years. They can use their looks to be more than just cute… this one I’m pretty sure is telling me to go F off somewhere!
Be careful, now that he has spotted you…
It wouldn’t be the first time a squirrel has thrown something at me while I was taking pictures! And they’ll wait until you have your back turned….
Well, this never happened to David Attenborough. Perhaps some form of camera camouflage is in order…
Perhaps my narration isn’t as soothing. I’ll have to work on my British accent…
Did he start chirping you? He really looks the type!
He probably did! I’ve gotten them upset at me before just by being around…. but I don’t quite send them screeching like a cat will. I always know when there’s a cat prowling the neighborhood by the nonstop squirrel barking!
He must have a cousin in Denver because one in my yard not only surveys his domain but practically flips me off at every opportunity. Or maybe it’s Elsa he’s directing his digits toward? Hmm. 🤔
I’m sure there’s plenty of middle digits being flung all around there….
He does look a bit annoyed to find you watching him! Did you see the story about a squirrel or squirrels that were terrorizing a neighborhood in New York? The attacks were pretty bloody and vicious!
I didn’t see that, but I can imagine what would happen if squirrels just went berzerk! I’ve walked by a few who didn’t notice me (or me, them) until the last minute… and they could have certainly jumped all over me for scaring them!
