After a relatively cool first half of Spring, this week’s given us our first dose of daily highs in the 80’s (F, not C for those of you who prefer small numbers in your weather forecasts). A good time for those who actually like being in the sun to get out there and soak up those Vitamin D and ultraviolet rich rays!
This squirrel I came across at the park last week is doing just that on top of the shingled dugout roof at the big softball field. He’s probably still a bit warm with his fur coat still transitioning from heavy winter to much lighter summer…
Poor guy. Anything I can do to make your Saturday Squirrel appearance more comfortable?
Errrrrrr….. I’ll see if any of the park employees are available to help you with that.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Squirrels are such whirlwinds of action…. nice shot of some rare down time!
I see it more often in the summer. I sure wouldn’t want to be out in the heat wearing a fur coat…
That’s a super photo…….I bet if Mr. Squirrels checks the park trashcans there’s bound to be some “leftover” suntan lotion there (why not – people throw away all kinds of stuff in parks!).
Pam
I’m sure he has, as I often catch the squirrels rummaging through the cans. Although people leave enough “freebies” just lying on the ground too…
Looks like he’s soaking up the warmth.
He might have some lizard in his family tree…
Looks like it!
He’s looking pretty chill for such a hot day!
He just needs a lawn chair and a beer…
That’s so cute how he lays so flat 🐿️😄 Enjoy your weekend, my friend!
Squirrels can get very flat! I have a picture of one who blends in so perfectly with the trunk of the tree he’s on, you have to strain to see him…
Now that’s relaxation!!
Today we started getting the humidity too. I had SO hoped we’d get a month off before the air become even more unbreathable. it has been unbreathable because of pollen. Now it’s also super muggy out there.
We had to take down our feeders. We had been invaded by brown-headed cowbirds. They are a very Hitchcockian sort of bird and we had DOZENS of them — all black with a dark brown head — hanging on the feeders, scaring away everything else except sometimes the squirrels would ignore them — but even they started staying away. Finally, we gave up. There’s plenty to eat out there. We’ll put the feeders back up in late August or September. The last week we had them up, the squirrels looked just like yours. Tired. Hot and lounging on the railing!
Never heard of them, but “cowbirds” seem to perfectly describe a nuisance bird…
He looks happy enough, though a little warm. I expect he’ll burst into action at some point…
Or maybe burst into flames. Which would also make him burst into action…
Squirrel on a hot tin roof?
Danger Will Robinson…the squirrel is going all Ninja!
