Stooges. Amigos. Wise men. Good things come in threes. And sometimes, even mediocre tidbits from The Nest’s week come in trios as well. It’s time for this Sunday’s threesome…
It’s hard to believe that this blog’s original purpose when I started it nearly ten years ago was simply to promote the Cafepress shop I designed and introduce everyone to the cartoon characters I’d created that it was based around. I made a pretty bad spammer back then…. as in, I didn’t do that. But even though the shop was a failure, the blog soon found its true calling as my new creative outlet and the rest is history…
But the shop still exists, of course. About the only time it gets mentioned is during each year’s Contest of Whatever. And while I make zero sales from the shop itself, Cafepress offers items with my designs through its marketplace which net me a very VERY humble royalty for each item sold… and a few times a year, I’ll check my report and see someone bought another bumper sticker or magnet with something I drew on it. So I nearly fell over Friday when my weekly report revealed this…
Three sales in three days! Wow! That equals the number of sales I’d had so far in 2021. Look out Jeff Bezos, Evil Squirrel’s coming for you…
I was trying to find an image of Backyard Physics, the design that’s included in two of those sales…. but apparently I didn’t salvage my Cafepress designs off my old computer when I siphoned off the hard drive back in December. However, I did find an old screenshot included with all my old blog stuff that made me laugh at how silly Google can be.
Remember this guy?
He was the little green critter that appeared in Trisha’s SCT inspired entry in my Fourth Annual Contest of Whatever back in 2017. Every once in a while, I like to reverse look up images from my blog to see if they wound up anywhere else on the internet. Google also gives you a suggestion for what your image is when you do this, and I thought the recommendation that came up when I reverse looked up green guy four years ago was hilariously bad!
It’s both funny and a bit unsettling that Google connected the critter to the name Trisha, then offered up a suggestion that it was an image of an Indian actress named Trisha Krishnan. While the actress certainly looks nice, she’s nowhere near as cute as that little green critter…
I’m not a holiday person, but hopefully all those people who will be grilling it up this Memorial Day weekend remember to bundle up since it dove straight from the upper 80’s the past two weeks into the 40’s and 50’s this weekend… the so-called unofficial start of summer.
I have to go out and the lawn… in 46 degree weather. Kick off to summer my butt.
When it gets up in the 90’s and I have to cut the grass, I’d wish it was in the 40’s instead…
I hear ya.
😬
We managed to squeeze ourselves up from the 50s to the lofty temp this morning of 51. What the heck is this weather weirdness? Maybe Mother Earth has Covid. Oh I hope not. I still have a Cafepress shop but it wasn’t one where I made a cent from sales because I didn’t want to have to worry about keeping track of it. My shop was moderately busy at first then ground to a halt in time. Plus I never added anything new – it was the same old stuff. I’m happy to have my few souvenirs of the Evil Squirrel Shop – maybe they’ll be “collectors items” in the future and I can sell them on eBay for BIG BUCKS……LOL
Pam
The first few months, a lot of my online friends (and my Mom, of course) bought stuff and I got about $150 out of the deal…. those were all store sales, so I was making a good cut off of it. Then that dried up and I can’t earn anywhere near enough to even get a payout. That’s OK, the few bucks in my account helps offset my Contest of Whatever prizes each year… so at least those token royalties don’t go to waste!
Coming to grips with Google’s stalking, er searching capabilities is a bit unsettling. And despite which device I use to look up something, I can rest assured the Evil Empire has followed me on all of them. *Sigh
Stay warm this holiday weekend.
You will probably come up in a lot of squirrel searches now by mingling over here…
😆
There’s nothing quite like grilling in the snow. The temperature here is around 20 and sunny, so a little mini-heatwave for us, on the second-last day of meteorological Spring…
Yay for meteorological seasons! I was going to do a post on that scheduled for tomorrow, but was too lazy. They make so much more sense than the traditional seasons…
The weather has been weird this spring. No barbecuing for you, but I hope you enjoy your day off.
LOL! I never get Mondays off…. even the holidays! But we get barbecued burgers at work tonight!
By holidays, you mean winter or Christmas break, yes? (Here, the word holiday refers to any day during the year that you don’t have to work or go to school.) If that’s the case, it sounds like you don’t get much time off! Enjoy your burgers. 🙂
Ah, OK. I was referring to Memorial Day, the holiday, specifically. For many Americans that’s a day off, but not me. I have a Wed/Thur/Fri weekend… so that’s my holiday!
Thanks. 🙂
Trisha ought to sue for even being mentioned by you.Word will get back to India and she’ll be a laughingstock.
I doubt they read my blog in India. I write too much about eating hamburgers…
It looks like my once in a few months payout from Amazon for my book. I’m always surprised when someone buys one. I used to earn enough for a cheap supper at McDonald’s, but now it’s more like half a cup of coffee at McDonald’s. Except they don’t sell halves. Yet. I think my last check was about four months ago and it was for $1.39, which was huge — TWO BOOKS! Wowie zowie, eh?
I still have your little painting on my mantel. As long as I live, it lives too. AND we wear your tee shirts. Really! I am going to have to buy new ones because the two we have are beginning to wear out.
Are you certain you can afford them?
I always looked for Lil on the mantel in your photos! I keep all of the neat stuff I’ve gotten from others as well… then again, I’m a hopeless hoarder who finds sentimental reasons to keep ANYTHING…
That is a hilariously bad link for the green critter! Seeing its adorable little face made me panic a little because I hadn’t seen it in months and I was afraid I accidentally threw it away while purging stuff. But I found it, under a journal and the remnants of an ancient cookbook. Poor thing! It is now freed from its prison, thanks to you.
No bundling up is necessary to BBQ here this year and no umbrellas either. It’s a rare Memorial Day weekend when we don’t get any rain!
YAY! I remember last time he came up you said you couldn’t find him, but I’m glad he’s still around! And now he can be a part of your next Contest of Whatever entry! If he were a shelf critter, that expression would earn him the personality of being Mr. I’m Not Very Impressed With What’s Going On…
And his name would be Meh, the little green critter who’s not impressed!
