They say good things come in threes, but so do celebrity deaths. This trio of Weekend Threesome tidbits will probably lie somewhere between the two extremes…
Many people probably don’t pay any attention to all of the posts they’ve made on their blog once they’re safely out of sight in the rearview mirror… but I know strangers from all over the world come across our forgotten past in utterly fascinating ways, so I like to tidy up my content that is no longer accessible…. mainly, YouTube videos from my Monday Muzak features. These will disappear all the time, leaving you with dozens of music posts that suddenly have no music to listen to at all…
I’d already freshened up most of my massive archive of DVA posts with more recent (and more copyright legal) YouTube videos where giant gray boxes had left a nasty stain. Last week, I plowed through my Novelty Song countdown I did in 2018 to restore the music to it…. and was stunned at how many of those posts had literally gone tone deaf. I think at one point, seven posts in a row (#9-15) had had their videos taken down! Sheesh, what’s the world coming to when even novelty acts get in a tizzy over people wanting to listen to their humorous fare on YouTube?

This still I captured was all that remained of the video I had posted of The Village People’s “Macho Man.” I’ll bet the leatherman was behind this…
Speaking of old blog posts, I can tell the end of summer is nigh because my 2017 post “The Big Green Nut” is once again coming up regularly on my popular posts list. Of all the things Google has declared my blog to be an “expert” on over the years, whether it be the crepuscular nature of squirrels or giant naked fat men sitting at a computer, my post explaining just what those giant green balls that fall from trees in August and September are has been The Nest’s most regular draw. See for yourself in the post’s all time hits by month table…
It’s racked up comparably large numbers from August to October from people searching for the mystery behind the green balls…. which (thanks so much to Jenn’s Big Guy for pointing this out to me) are actually walnuts! Most people aren’t aware the walnut we see on our grocery store shelves is actually contained inside a super hard green shell as it grows on the tree…
Squirrels love these things, and I have a few pics of them (Like “Jaws” above) strengthening their ever-growing front teeth on them…
Friday was Ody’s 12th birthday. No, I don’t celebrate the birthdays of pets (or really people, for that matter), but figured he deserved a shout out for having put up with me for almost that long…
Happy Birthday Ody……I bet your years with the Squirrel have been interesting……watching the production of SCT episodes wondering what planet the man you live with came from……the gigantic bottomless kitchen pit that opened up and almost swallowed the rest of the house – lots of great memories I’m sure. As for the BIG GREEN BALLS – I could make some kind of off color (non-green) kind of comment but will resist – after all it’s Sunday.
Pam
Ody’s appeared in a couple of the early SCT episodes… once by complete accident when he decided to crash the set and I just worked it into the story. Since then he’s been barred from being in the live studio audience. He definitely has a dim view of my plumbers since their mess made him sick!
happy 3 and especially happy birthday to ode –
Ody nods in approval of your wishes…
One: It was definitely the construction dude. They cause as much trouble as any Leatherman. Just try to get a construction permit these days. Two: Had no idea walnuts were encased in a green ball suit. Go figure. Three: Happy birthday, Ody. Hope there’s a spot of tasty tuna/or other favorite cat treat with which to celebrate. 🎂
The walnut thing seems to be one of the great unknown facts of life. They must not teach it in school. The construction dude can’t be to blame unless he had four more of his fellow workers to stand around and watch while he took down the video…
Salutations Mr. Ody on making a twelfth run around the sun. Possibly carrying a big green “ball” in your mouth in hopes of tempting a squirrel, the thing you’d possibly love to catch.
We don’t have any walnut trees around me that I’m aware of, so I’d have to bring Ody to the park, which would require a leash, and he’s too sophisticated to be tied down like that. Plus, after 12 years as an indoor cat, he’d probably shit if I let him run around outside…
Happy birthday, Ody!
Many of your old music posts are now music-less? Oh no. 😉
I’ve dusted for fingerprints on the empty videos. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t match someone I know…
Happy Birthday Ody – same day as me. 🙂
Happy belated birthday!
Green balls! I love men with green balls!
Just one step away from blue balls…
