Weekend Threesome – 9/26/21

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you might even just say meh.  It’s The Nest’s Weekend Threesome!  Three short tales and tidbits you didn’t want to know, but are going to find out about anyway…

If it isn’t one thing, it’s another for me this year.  Since last Sunday I’ve been bothered off and on by that oh-too-familiar annoyance of a kidney stone.  Not the debilitating, doubled over, excruciating type that is most associated with stones, thankfully.  I think that’s more of an issue for kidney stone rookies than veterans like me who have built rockpiles of renal sediment over their lifetime.  But it’s definitely irritating and annoying and, worst of all, nauseating… especially since you’re trying to up your water intake at the same time to pass the damned thing!

Uh…. er….. OK, that got me in this trouble to start with.

I actually passed a small piece at work Tuesday night, though I didn’t figure that was the issue since the pain was still largely in my side and back… and stones on the way out usually give you issues lower and in the front.  Kinda like I’m feeling right now as I type this on Saturday morning, which gives me hope that maybe the main issue will soon be gone.  But that may depend on if it breaks up some more, because one confirmed 5mm stone I had already in my ureter in March of 2012 didn’t finally pass through until five weeks later because that bastard came out whole!

I hope you already had your breakfast…

You may recall a few weeks ago my city’s trash service suddenly changed over from Waste Management to Republic.  I was forced to actually do a little checking up on that situation because of the fact that WM had just billed everyone for the upcoming period right before the change occurred, and now Republic wants their money for the same timeframe.

I may as well just leave this by the curb.

Apparently the huge rate hike Waste Management had submitted for renewing its contract with the city was unacceptable for the mayor.  WM knew they had the leverage since there wasn’t really a viable alternative for citywide garbage pickup, but the mayor still told them (politely, I’d assume) to fuck off.  Thus, the sudden and unexpected change to Republic.  Waste Management is supposed to issue refunds to those who already paid the bill before the change was made, but…… we’ll see if that comes or if I have to actually call someone and demand it.

My telephone speaking skills in a nutshell.

Here was the forecast for Thursday, which was conveniently the first full day of Fall…

Yeah, I’d say the weather that day was just about perfect.  But as a born contrarian and huge media cynic, I absolutely can’t STAND headlines like that which just assume everyone thinks the same way about certain things.  I’m sure there are a few people who wouldn’t find that weather to be perfect for them, and are probably flipping the bird to their screens upon seeing it…

Or maybe doing worse things…

  1. You have my sympathies. Oooh, ouch…kidney stones are the pits. Hope yours clear/break up soon. Dealing with any kind of utility service requires the patience of Job (or kidney stones) to deal with the bureaucracy getting the service without being taken to the cleaners.

  2. Owie. That image of the stone made MY groin hurt and I don’t even have a dangler. Damn. No wonder grown men go into the hospital to get those things pulverized before trying to send them down the golden river (so to speak). O_o

I’m not sure how effective this might be, but I’m subject (a lot) to UTIs because I ‘don’t drink enough water’ either. Although the dreaded ‘P” word rarely passes my gullet, the magnificent and awesome coca-cola (it’s the REAL thing) does. Diabetes don’t play y’all and I end up with a UTI.

Anyway….I’ve been told cranberry juice (plain…no fancying it up with grape or peach or whatever flavor either). Plain. Helps relieve the UTI and it works. Maybe it’s a suggestion for your stones in future? IDK. My sympathies.

  3. I know those kidney stones are no picnic. First husband had several and that included one which would NOT come out on its’ own and required surgery. May the force (of water/fluid/whatever it takes) be with you in getting that thing to take the easy way out (although painful) and flush it out of your life forever.

    • This one’s been very kind to me as far as stones go…. just irritating and not excruciating. I think the more you get, the better your plumbing gets at flushing them out reasonably well. The very first stone I had was utterly horrible, and it was so small, it passed unnoticed by the time I got to the ER…

Yeeks, you don’t want another stone like that one. Can’t they ultrasonic it or something?
Good luck with that company volunteering to give your money back.

  5. Mer O'Leary says:

That thing came out of your weewee? Ouch! Probably worse than childbirth.

  6. Ouch! That has to be excruciating. Yes, as Melanie says, cranberry juice.

Jabber Away...
