It’s time to open up your trick or treat bags so you can receive three fun sized tidbits from The Nest’s week that was in this Sunday’s Threesome. Don’t frown, at least it isn’t those nasty orange and black wrapper candies…
No, this isn’t a repeat. After four rather miserable hours right after I woke up Thursday morning, I let loose with yet ANOTHER kidney stone…. this one from the right side. As you can see from my handy dandy ruler, it was a nice sized 5 millimeter long rock. And yes, even in America kidney stones are measured in metric, because we don’t have a common unit smaller than the inch, which is 25 and a half of those millimeters.
So that’s two good sized stones ejected in a span of one month. And another piece to add to the collection…
Pretty soon, I’ll be able to make my own necklace! Hey, why pay jewelry store prices for stones when you can manufacture your own…
The LCD display on my thermostat’s been going bad for a while now, and it finally went out completely on Monday…. naturally, right after a cold front came through and made it chilly enough for the furnace. My Dad had helped me change it out before, maybe even twice, I think… so I felt confident in trying to replace it myself. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a small flat head screwdriver to undo the connections… so I had to let the place chill a bit while I bought one at work that night.

Not my new thermostat… this is the one me and my Dad installed many years ago. Crooked as hell, but it worked, dammit!
My installation attempt was a success the first time, which is amazing given that me and my Dad never did any repair job right the first time. I achieved this success despite hooking up the (faded) colored wires the same way they were on the old thermostat, only to discover before I put the panel back on that this one reversed the blue and green connectors, which threw me off!!! As a bonus, the issue I began having with my furnace in April with it shutting on and off every five minutes is no longer! So the old thermostat, a fancy pants expensive model installed by the repairman I had out in 2016 or so, was the issue there!
And finally, a few things to look forward to this first week of November….
Melanie says the next Shelf Critter edition of Share Your World, featuring the next batch of questions I’ve been posing in my answer posts, will be posted tomorrow! I love the little Photoshop shit she does with my critters in those posts!
Also, the first edition of my 10th Anniversary series featuring my favorite squirrel photos from each year on my blog will be posted Tuesday. We’re gonna party like it’s 2012…
Congratulations on producing yet another kidney stone AND installing a new thermostat all by yourself. I’m guessing of the two things, you would prefer to do the thermostat installation again rather than spewing forth another stone – right?
Pam
That would depend on if I could find a profitable use for my stones. You think they’d sell well on Etsy if I painted them?
Yikes, ANOTHER stone?! Eek…my sympathies. Congrats though on successfully installing the new thermostat. Did you know a regular table knife is a more than a suitable substitute at imitating a flathead screwdriver. Don’t you just love dual purposed utensils? 🪛🛠
I had to get a pocket screwdriver to find something small enough for those teensy little screws. A knife may have worked, but like everything else, I bought my silverware at Mecca, so the tiny screws might have snapped it in half…
😳 Gulp! Well, as they say, all’s well that ends well.
IMPORTANT-don’t text and think.
I don’t do either of those things anyway…
A kidney stone and a new thermostat? You should buy a lottery ticket! 😉
That’s funny, because I walked into work last night and found out we’re now selling lottery tickets! Not that I’d buy one, but still…. I could have!
Yay, ten years of squirrel photos on the way!
Another kidney stone? Yikes.
First, allow me to say OUCH! Those little rocks much hurt look hell. I had stones around that size in my gall bladder, but at least they took them out surgically. They did, however, give me the stones in a little cup. I was going to make earrings, but everyone told me that was ghoulish. So I didn’t. Wish i had done it anyway!
