The Squirrels Of 2015

Evil Squirrel’s Nest turns ten next month, and one of the ways we’re celebrating is by looking back at the very best of one of my blog’s signature features… squirrel photos!  We’re doing that year by year, and the fourth part of this nostalgic series will highlight my favorite sciurines of 2015!

2015 was the year The Nest took a crazy look at the stars with the guidance of the stoner astrologers.  It was the year I first gave my readers the ability to request what they wanted me to write about by prompting the squirrel.  It was the year I featured my first music countdown, showing off my terrible wonderful taste in cover songs.  It was the year my five part pony parody of “A Christmas Carol” foreshadowed Shelf Critter Theatre to come.  And it was the year I began sharing some of my favorite non-squirrel photos and the stories behind them… including a midsummer visit by a family of possums at Mecca!

But you came here for the squirrels, right?  Well, you surely won’t be disappointed.  Here’s some of the squirrels that made 2015 just a little bit more adorable….

Yeah, we always have to start off with the snowy squirrel.  Poor guy looks so fed up with winter, but so cute with that snow on his nose…

Just a squirrel lying on his back gnawing on a corn cob.  Nothing you ain’t seen before…

Three acorns in one!  You can’t even get that offer from Billy Mays…

And this poor guy got stuck chewing on an old napkin…

That split in my front yard tree is no longer there… and it wouldn’t surprise me if this is how it broke off.

Do you mind?  You’re ruining my view from up here…

I guess that’s how you dust in between fence boards…

Howdy neighbor!

Uh oh!  Someone get the Jaws of Life!

Sorry you had to get up so early to read this…

HEY!!!  Behave you two!!!

The Squirrelcoon!  This squirrel had some molting issues, but he looked so freakishly adorable with those orange “stripes!”

Squirrels look great with any foliage background…

Golden sunlit leaves!

Reddish leaves!

And…… dead brown leaves.

I like big nuts and I can not lie!

OK…. that big nut is just ridiculous!

Perfect symmetry!  I absolutely love this photo…

And this squirrel’s symmetry is being….. um….. a bit weighed down by that excess baggage.

Can’t see the haters!

Welcome to the jungle…

That is one very long squirrel!

Hey, who turned out the lights?

Oh my!  I hope that squirrel is OK.  He almost gave me a heart attack…

Excuse me…. are those Bugle Boy jeans you’re wearing?

I’ll bet there’s something good in here!

Yes, squirrels actually know how to walk!

I’m getting bored…..

Alright, alright…. I guess it’s time for the finale.

I’m the finale?!!?

Yes, you are!  Come back next Tuesday for the sciurine Class of ’16…

Oh, and here’s the encore…. also, my desktop background!

  1. A mighty fine bunch of 2015 squirrels indeed. Picking a fave would be tough – there were many in 2015. Have always liked the guy peeking over the fence and the one with the wacky tail molt. Seriously though these are all super squirrel material!

    • I had thought of ranking the pictures in each post, but decided not to since everyone will have their own favorites. Mine tend to be towards the bottom, but there’s something to love in each one of them!

    So much squirrelly goodness!
    👍

Left alone, what is the life expectancy of a squirrel?

    • In captivity, squirrels can live 10 years or more. In the wild, it’s rare for squirrels to live longer than a couple of years. There’s just too many things out there who have it out for them…

Oh my goodness I remember most of these. The first one with the snow on it’s nose! There are some real beauties in here. Expect a call from National Geographic soon for their 2022 Squirrel issue.

  6. What a great trip down memory lane. LOVE the duster!! Too funny.

Another year of cute and amusing squirrels. I’d forgotten about “Prompt the Squirrel”!
