Each Tuesday, The Nest is looking back on its rich ten year history of squirrel photos by dissecting (the photos, not the squirrels) each year we’ve been in business on WordPress. For Part V of our look back, let’s revisit the year 2016!
It was the year Bashful the rock paid a visit to my blog, bringing me a set of new readers who loved to follow his adventures… adventures which ultimately led to the creation of my current flagship franchise, Shelf Critter Theatre. It was the year I shelved Mecca Muzak Mondays in favor of the Dusty Vinyl Archive, showcasing some of my favorite forgotten songs from the past. 2016 was the year I invited my readers to kill off Buster in the Contest of Whatever. It was the year we thoroughly trashed Daylight Savings Time, and watched capybaras briefly take over The Nest.
But this is not Evil Capybara’s Nest, it is Evil Squirrel’s Nest… and squirrels are what we do best. And here are the squirrel photos we did best from 2016…
Is the cob half full or half empty? And do squirrels really care about that philosophical question as long as there’s something to eat?
We like to put squirrels up on a pedestal at The Nest…
This squirrel has a lovely taste in tree decor…
BDSM Squirrel likes his ball gag…
Short tailed squirrel don’t care…. well, unless it starts raining.
Hang on, buddy! I’m coming to help you!
This squirrel has just entered The Twilight Zone…
Jaws squirrel lurking in the deep?
A fat squirrel with a peanut. Isn’t that adorable?
Best. Squirrel. Photo. Ever.
You try balancing yourself on a trash can rim with just your tootsies.
This squirrel’s got some big paws…
Sisyphus Squirrel hard at work…
Nope, not sharing!
Might as well jump!
Awwww, what a cutie with an ear notch!
You laughing at my ear notch punk!?!?!? Take this!!!
You’re my brown eyed squirrel…
He can’t believe what he’s seen!
This squirrel was something else!
Swish on…
Swish off!
Now that’s a tail tornado!
And finally… one of The Nest’s most famous squirrels, Wilson the nest builder!
See him holding those leaves? He was crinkling up a storm and didn’t seem to mind me watching him bring “building materials” up to his new home for almost half an hour!
That’s practically a squirrel mansion in that tree! Well done, Wilson!
Join me next Tuesday as we look at the squirrels of 2017…
So many fabulous photos that year. Wilson is mighty impressive as a builder – that apartment building he made is fab but with leaves for walls I bet you can hear the neighbors. 2016 was a great year for squirrel photos though – a real bumper crop of them!
Pam
With a nest that extravagant, Wilson’s crib will be the place all the noise is coming from. Just think of the parties he can throw there….
Delightful photos. Do you have some of squirrel babies?
I will in four weeks when I get to last year’s photos…
Leaf gathering squirrel is an epic series.
👍
It was even more fun to watch in person. Good thing it was January and the park was mostly empty, or I might have been confused with a crazy person…
Seriously cute photos!
None of them looked evil to me.
Hang on, buddy! I’m coming to help you…said no squirrel ever. “Help” is not found in the squirrel lexicon. 😉
As long as there’s no food involved, a squirrel will help a fellow comrade in arms…
Ha, love the dangling one. He looks like he slipped!
Lucky he did that just a few feet off the ground…
