Weekend Threesome – 3/27/22

Sunday means it’s time for The Nest’s Weekend Threesome!  A trio of shiny things that your cat will have a ball burying in the litter box once you’re done reading them…

My dryer went kaput back in June 2019, and rather than replace it, I’ve been washing my clothes at home and taking my one paltry load of laundry down to the laundromat to run through the dryer.  I thought that was weird at first, but I’ve noticed a lot of other people apparently use the laundromat solely for the dryers…

Wahing the rock! Washing the rock!

Because it’s much more fun to hang out with the creeps at the laundromat!

Anyway, laundry day for me is typically Thursday mornings at the asscrack of dawn.  While at the laundromat on St. Patty’s Day, they had a sign on the door noting they’d be closed the following Monday through Thursday to install new equipment.  So I waited the extra day this week and did my wash on Friday morning.  And I already knew what I was going to see when I walked in the place.  No, not bunches and bunches of brand spanking new industrial sized washers and dryers….but the same old machines with reprogrammed coin collectors that were going to make the cost of getting my clothes dry just a little more expensive…

Guess I better bring a bigger bucket next time…

So now a thirty minute spin through the dryer costs FIVE quarters instead of four, and the add on time went from six minute increments to five… so it costs a whole $1.75 for 40 minutes of dry time rather than $1.50 for 42 minutes.  Bah!  It’s still cheaper than a new dryer and it forcefully disconnects me from my computer for a while so I actually have to read a book…

Reading is fundamental!

I said in the last Threesome I’d share some of the pictures I took in my one outing with that stupid phone a week and a half ago.  Here’s one of them…

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a lost dog poster with “Do not chase” on it.  Poor guy… he doesn’t look too happy in that photo.  Maybe he wants to be chased….

And finally, the sun must be in the same position in the sky it was back in September….

More acid flashbacks…

The tinsel rainbow unicorn lights are back in the early evening!  Apparently this happens around the equinoxes, as when I first noticed it last year, it was the third week of September, and lasted for a couple weeks after that.  So we’ll see how long I get red, yellow and blue squiggly lights on my wall before the sun gets too far out of position again to hit his rainbow mane just right.  At least they won’t scare the shit out of me this time…

  1. I remember my days having to use the laundromat…..talk about a “slice of humanity” – I think in those couple of years I “saw it all” including a guy coming in, taking all his clothes off, washing and drying them, putting them back on and walking out again. Some lady said “he does that every week”……nice to know there are some things in life you can count on (like your tinsel rainbow unicorn lights).

    • I’ll bet the views of naked man washing his clothes were well worth the trip to the laundromat! I haven’t seen anything that sketchy yet… the main issue with kids since the laundromat is right across the street from the junior high and high school. Who knew the laundromat was such a popular hangout…

The peep filled up the other day. Fifty bucks???? This is a small 2 seat sports car (Mazda Miata and now an official antique-1997)

Of course the laundromat had to put the prices up. They have to recoup all the money they lost being closed for four whole days putting new coin machines in…

  4. Back when we lived in a high-rise in Boston, we always used the machines in the basement. My best cross-country flying experience took me through Las Vegas where we had to wait for the next flight to Boston. The waiting room was a casino — drinks and helpful young women wearing far too few items of clothing considering the A/C. I won (in one hour) almost $50 in quarters. We got a lot of laundry done for those quarters.

We used to have a laundromat in town, but it closed a few years ago so now, if you don’t have your own machines? I suppose you have to drive to another town. But where?

    • I’m fortunate enough to live in a ghetto town where we still have two laundromats, and used to have a lot of smaller ones when I was a kid. The only casinos I was ever in that gave out real coins were in Tunica when I went with my parents 22 years ago. That was when I was first introduced to penny machines. Oh the joy I had betting 9 cents a spin and playing on five bucks for hours! Yeah, that don’t work anymore…

  5. Here’s to loads of squiggly views for a long time. Sorry about the price increase. Soon you’ll have paid for a new dryer…for the laundromat.
