#46 – Funny Bunny

Squirrels aren’t the only critters that scamper and traipse through The Nest’s yard.  Other than the occasional wandering dog or cat, we’ve got some bunnies that hippity hop through the neighborhood.  This was particularly true about ten years ago when it wasn’t uncommon for a stray hare to wander onto one of my squirrel photoshoots.

Easter was in March in 2013 (in fact, we even had snow on the ground that weekend), but you can pretend this bunny meets squirrel moment from April 22nd was seasonally appropriate.  I got such great shots of this squirrel’s reaction to the intruder, and the rabbit’s unwillingness to even recognize the squirrel’s existence, that I added some dialogue and turned it into a cartoon that I posted on the following Saturday… making this interspecies comic pairing my 46th favorite Saturday Squirrel (and Bunny)….

Oh, and I did reverse the images so that the squirrel’s dialogue bubble would appear leftmost…

Cool to see the bunny! Your photos and captions are so funny! 🙂

    • Thanks! I don’t see as many bunnies as I did back then, but I apparently had a family of them in my yard at the time…. as I found out by accident one time while cutting the grass (Amazingly, no bunnies were harmed)…

Glad the bunnies stayed safe from the mower that time! I don’t see them around here, but a couple of times we had a prairie dog in the back yard. 🙂

    Ha! Poor squirrel.
Of all the creatures we have in our backyard we have yet to see a bunny. Oddly enough they’re pretty rare up here, too many predators I guess.

    • Bunnies are about the only other daytime wildlife we have here other than the squirrels and occasional odd bird like ducks or turkeys. I’d gladly trade a few for one of your foxes, though the neighborhood cats might not agree….

  4. HAHAHA! We see a lot of buns (oops…..I mean bunnies) around here but so do the hawks that lie in wait up in the trees. They keep the squirrel AND bunny populations under control (sadly). Great dialogue between these two “raiders of the lost yard”.

No bunnies here that I’ve seen but my daughter has a family in her backyard.

  6. Bwahahaha! As you can imagine…I was rooting for the bunny. 😈

LOL! That is so cute! I love how the squirrel is so cautious and the bunny just keeps chowing down, completely unfazed. That bunny looks tougher than the ones we have here! I’ve had a few bunnies in my backyard over the last five years or so but they never stick around (or live) for very long. They, like the red squirrels, have an unfortunate habit of running out in front of cars.
