Tufts Of Love

Who says white hair looks unattractive?

My first attempt at collecting some squirrel pics in 2023 turned up a squirrel who seemed to be all over the place, and was easy to identify in photos due to one distinguishing feature.  Check out that tuft of white above his ears!  I swear I’m half blind, because I never notice things like this (or the ear notches on the park squirrels) in real time… but it’s easy to spot while going through the photographic results.

It’s funny, because this subject came up last week when I showed off the pics of the white squirrel from Virginia!  Donna even mentioned she has a squirrel nearby with distinctive white patches of fur.

I only kept eighteen of the photos, but Mr. White Tufts was in over half of them… and in various locations as well.  Not surprising since the handful of squirrels milling about were, in typical sciurine fashion, never in one place for very long….

Here he is by my ditch.

There he is chasing another squirrel…

Back on my tree…

On a fence several houses down…. with a peanut!

I’ll have to look out for more of this guy!  We don’t have those cute ear tufted squirrels that they do in the Eastern Hemisphere, but my newest Saturday Squirrel on the block seems to be as close as I can get to one!

Don’t even think of cutting notches in these beauties!

Have a great weekend everyone!

He’s a cute one! Talk about busy as a bee, I’d say squirrels are pretty busy the way the get from here to there and back again so fast.
    Happy Saturday! 🙂

  2. I like the white hair tuft…..looks kind of like the beginnings of a mohawk….pretty rad!

  3. It’s funny how things just pop out when you get a chance to review them on a computer screen, especially when said pops weren’t noticed in the viewfinder. Have a terrific weekend.

    Now how cute is that!

  5. We have several grays with white ears, too. It’s the back of the ears that’s covered with white fur. I’ll have to see if I can photograph one better. They say the white fur is a mutation. Interesting how some only have a small amount and a few end up all white but not albino (no red eyes).

We have one just like him in our yard—makes it easy to distinguish him!
