Evil Squirrel's Nest

Tails, I Win!

Nothing beats a smiling squirrel!

This week’s Saturday Squirrel is a happy little fella, wouldn’t you say?  He’s just sitting there, taking in the sights from his little limb overlooking the world, and seems to have quite a joyous outlook on life!  If only we could all be like this squirrel and relish the simple things in life and not sweat the…..

Wait a minute!  Something’s not right here!

What’s up with that squirrel!?!?

No, not the fact that he seems to be in a Prozac-induced state of giddiness.  Squirrels do everything to excess, including happiness.  No, there’s something else odd about this squirrel.  That tail.  Or is it actually….

I’d have a shit eating grin on my face too if I had a secret like that…

Now I just photographed this squirrel yesterday, and have a handful of other pictures of him… yet none clearly show his tail.  Only this one does… and damned if it doesn’t look like he’s got a pair of waggers attached to his caboose!!!  There must be some odd illusion at work here, because I will swear this squirrel was just like every other nut gatherer out there.. in fact, I didn’t even notice the appearance of twin tails until I was checking my archive for a good Saturday picture.

For the sake of this post, however, we can conveniently ignore what I actually know about this squirrel and just say the lucky critter has two tails.  I’ll bet the squirrel girls just go nuts over that…. yet another reason he looks to be so happy!  Perhaps this squirrel even has a little kitsune in his ancestry…

The kitsune is a fox from Japanese folklore with a number of mystical powers, including the ability to assume human form.  It is also noteworthy for its multiple tails, which it gains during its life as it grows older, wiser, and more powerful… all the way up to nine tails for what I guess would be a black belt kitsune.  So does this week’s Saturday Squirrel have vast insight into the state of the world that is making it so happy?  Will I look out my window one day to see a strange naked man climbing in my tree?  What will this squirrel have to do to earn his third tail?

All questions to ponder for another day and time.  We do not want to disturb our kitsune squirrel’s happy vibe….

Have a great weekend everyone!
