Forget You

forget you

My pal Merby has been floating around some “taboo topics” on her blog lately… and an incident that occurred on my message board over the weekend has inspired me to post about one of my own….

How would you react if someone responded to you, in all seriousness, “Fuck you!”

red squirrels rock!

Say that again, furball!

The “victim” of this insult took it extremely hard and personal.  I’d imagine a lot of others would probably have reacted the same way and wanted to smash a bottle over someone’s head.

I, on the other hand, have never taken FU or FO in a personal way.  Any time I’ve had the pleasure of being honored with such a phrase, and believe me, I’ve gotten it quite a bit, I’ve always attributed it to either one of two things….

1. I deserved it

2. It’s more of a reflection on the person who said it than the person who it was meant for.

ouch!

ouch!

For an example of #1 (in reverse), last night I was driving to work and someone triggered the crosswalk stoplight near my house.  After stopping to make sure nobody was actually crossing, and seeing the two guilty douchebags diddybopping along up ahead, I morphed into the real evil squirrel and blew through the red light and made sure to wave the birdie to the two perps as I drove by them.  No question there, they definitely deserved my one finger salute.

As for #2, I think I’ve mentioned before that the Mecca I work at, unlike most Meccas of the “super” variety, closes at midnight instead of staying open 24 hours.  Well, there’s plenty of people out there who just ASSume we’re open whenever they feel like shopping, and if they roll up during the first 15 minutes we’re closed, which is when my crew is on break, they will run into me telling them (in my best customer friendly voice, of course!) that we are closed.  As you may imagine, from time to time, I hear some pretty colorful comments… including one drive-by birdie from a real jerkwad that absolutely made my night.  I guess I’m a glutton for being told to go do something to myself that is physically and biologically impossible….

Let us in!!! We need more onyx lipstick!

So, how would you react to hearing the Cee-lo Green message?

Bust some lips or bust a gut?

Sounds like a good time to go bowling for douchebags with your car as the ball. ;)

  2. Not a coment about this post but just to thank you for following. I got your blog from Phish’s Blog of Loveliness that you awarded the Dragon to. She awarded it to me and. . . don’t worry, I won’t send it back to you. :-)

P.S. I’ve got some cute squirrel photos which I’ll sort out one day and get one or two to you.

    Bless YOU! :)

Where I grew up, the proper response to FU or FO was always (said in one’s sweetest voice, with a big smile): “Why, bless your heart.”

Oh yeah. When the “Bless your heart” comment comes out … we all know there’s trouble brewing. o.o

For myself, I used to be a lawyer, which means I heard not-nice things directed at me quite often. The part of me that remained human is a bit bothered by it, but the rest of me shrugs and continues along the way. I generally look at it as a reflection of the person who says it. If they had anything intelligent to say, they wouldn’t have to resort to such an easy and cheap come-back.

I liked the article that Gentlestitches linked to. I wish the line she wrote about ‘Forgive people, it is the only way to piss them off’ would work in this case but I don’t think so.
