Up on the Tightrope

clumsy squirrel

They say Tuesday’s squirrel is full of grace, but this week’s Saturday squirrel nearly fell on his face.  I was taking some pictures out my window a couple days ago of another squirrel digging into my corncob feeder, when I happened to notice some extraneous movement way in the background.  It was a squirrel on a cable TV wire leading to the house across the ditch from me, and he wasn’t having an easy time of it.  I tried to get some pictures of him from my window, but he was too far away to show up clear at all…. so I quickly ran outside to capture this embarrassing moment for the sciurine persuiasion before he could get away.

Help me Rhonda!

This poor little guy was having way too many issues with his wire walking skills to be get away before I made it outside.  He redoubled and even retripled his efforts to break away when he saw he was getting caught on America’s Funniest Squirrel Pictures, but to not much avail.

OK, what wisesquirrel thought it’d be funny to grease up this wire? Fess up!!!

As awesome as it would have been to put on my blog, I’m glad I didn’t cause the poor thing to fall on his furry butt.  He did finally manage to right himself enough to make it into that tree you see on the left side of the photos…

Why couldn’t I have been born a flying squirrel?

butts (my squirrel) never goes on wires. he’s got so many trees around, all he needs is a branch too small or fragile to look clumsy and fall from. butts’ colleagues, the squirrels who mostly get fed on campus by friendly/sexy co-eds, have no use for cable (or otherwise) wires, either. they stay on the ground, get fed and fat.
