Keep Reaching For The Stars

Must...... reach...... nut!

Must…… reach…… nut!

There is a colorful adjective I use most often to describe my photography, and that is shitty.  Yes, you see some pretty decent pictures of squirrels on this blog that have come from my very own camera in my very own hands… but they are the exception to the rule.  sqturday squirrel logoEven a blind blogger can get a good picture of a nut every once in a while.

The picture above is one of my fails.  I tried to get a picture of this squirrel scampering up the tree in my backyard, and I wound up barely getting him in the bottom of the shot (the entire top 2/3 of the actual photo was cropped off to make it look presentable here).  Of course, sometimes even the shittiest of shots can have a little magic in it, and this one struck me because of the way the squirrel appears to be climbing out of the bottom of the picture with all he can muster.  Today’s Saturday Squirrel would look good on one of those motivational posters, showing off his determination to fight and claw his way to the top…. so that he can outwit my shitty photography and actually get his whole body in the picture.

So have a great weekend everyone, and like today’s honoree, remember to keep reaching for new heights!

Remember to keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars! There’s a Flashback Friday topic for you….

And, until I read your blog entry, I thought today’s Saturday Squirrel was specially cropped to look like that. It’s actually one of my favourites. So there you have it, unexpected beauty!

I used to watch “Star Search” with my dad.

That is one determined nut lover, right there.

  3. ‘determination,’ you say? ‘fight and claw…’ huh. now, see, I look at that picture and see a squirrel who has finally come to his sense and let’s go of the tree to just fall into my little mouthie. sort of a “is the glass of squirrel half full or half empty,” scenario, we have going on here….well, I guess it would make a nice poster – I may stick a few of these on the trees in my yard wif the words “abandon all hope, ye who climb here…” fanks for the idea, ES!

    • Sparky dear, this picture was supposed to inspire one to dream…. but you have taken that dreaming to a whole new level here! No squirrel would ever fall for that….. fall for that, haha! I crack myself up sometimes….

I love this picture. At first glance it looks like a rock-climber, and there are millions of motivational posters involving them. There are no wasted shots if you learn from your errors (and are working in digital.)

    • If it weren’t for digital photography, I’d fear ever taking a picture. It doesn’t help my squirrels force me to take pictures of them from inside rather than in the spaciousness of the great outdoors…

  5. I have to agree with Her Majesty… I love this “squirrelly” pic! Just keep reaching – is great advice. The fact you got the little bugger at all amazes me. No matter how hard I try, capturing any moving target with my camera is pretty much a fail.

Anyway, I’ve been away for a while (lol… no, not like locked up) but I enjoyed catching up with your latest posts. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! :-)

  6. nothing keeps a good squirrel down! (for long) :)

  7. HaHaHa!! ESPECIALLY that! :)
