In the wild, one of the best defenses an animal has against its predators lies in the art of camouflage. Critters who can blend in with their surroundings stand a much better chance of eluding those who may wish to eat them than their more flashy contemporaries whose bright patterns cause them to stand out like Tammy Faye Bakker.
I got to witness the awesome camo abilities of squirrels during my jaunt to the local park last month. I shot this ultra cute picture of this sciurine doing his best to try hiding in broad daylight from the douchebag armed with a camera. His fur colors are a near perfect match for the bark of the tree, with only the build up of moss throwing a bit of a monkey wrench in his disappearing act.
Here’s how he looked when I first came upon him:
For providing this fascinating insight into the wonderful world of furry camouflage, this tricky little fella gets the very noticeable honor of being this week’s Saturday Squirrel! Hey, after an honor like that, you’ve gotta at least show us a little bit of that cute fuzzy face…
Have a stand out from the crowd kind of weekend!
