Nothing here but us trees!

Nothing here but us trees!

In the wild, one of the best defenses an animal has against its predators lies in the art of camouflage.  Critters who can blend in with their surroundings stand a much better chance sqturday squirrel logoof eluding those who may wish to eat them than their more flashy contemporaries whose bright patterns cause them to stand out like Tammy Faye Bakker.

I got to witness the awesome camo abilities of squirrels during my jaunt to the local park last month.  I shot this ultra cute picture of this sciurine doing his best to try hiding in broad daylight from the douchebag armed with a camera.  His fur colors are a near perfect match for the bark of the tree, with only the build up of moss throwing a bit of a monkey wrench in his disappearing act.

Here’s how he looked when I first came upon him:

My tail's a root. Yes, that's it, a root!

For providing this fascinating insight into the wonderful world of furry camouflage, this tricky little fella gets the very noticeable honor of being this week’s Saturday Squirrel!  Hey, after an honor like that, you’ve gotta at least show us a little bit of that cute fuzzy face…

What face? Tree bark doesn't have a face!

Have a stand out from the crowd kind of weekend!

    It comes and goes,
    It comes and go-o-oes.
Life would be easy if it were like
    A squirrel and tree.
    Squir-r-rel and tree,
    Squir-r-rel and tree-e-ee

Sorry, up too early. Oh yeah, cute squirrel! 🙂

  5. Maybe that’s been my mistake. Lack of camouflage. I could get clothing that’s the same color as the rug or sofa. And I’d be safe from predators. Garry would NEVER find me!

  6. Another nice one. I am enjoying your photos of the brethren.
