Paper or Plastic?

If I ever find my cats are annoying me and I need to be left alone, there is one foolproof way to get them to both immediately bolt for the opposite end of the house.  Ody and Biskit are both terrified of the crinkling of plastic bags.  I’m not sure if this phobia is common in cats since it didn’t seem to bother Spilly so much, but mine sure seem to have the plastic willies.

However, being both a bad cat parent and a hoarder, I have a few of these plastic boogeymen lying around the house where curious cats can sometimes find them, and occasionally incidents like what happened last night will occur…

Does this dress make me look fat?

I was just getting ready to sit down in the living room when Ody came flying through the living room like all hell had broken loose.  Biskit immediately bolted for the bedroom like someone had put a bounty out on black cats.  Ody settled in the space between my comfy chair and the wall and I noticed he had apparently gotten himself hung up in one of my dastardly Walmart bag traps.  The poor kitty was in such terror, there was only one thing I could do…..

Yeah, you’re a big help! GET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE!!!!

Whenever my cats do something stupid, they’re getting photographed and humiliated on the internets!  Oh, don’t look so ticked off Ody… everyone loves cute cat pictures and with any luck, you may become as famous as your brother Spilly did and get posted on forums across the world!

Ody…… ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!

Whoa….. okay, little buddy!  Just hold still a minute.  Ody does make for some of the best glowing eyes pictures, but I better get him out of his makeshift outfit before he decides to claw my eyeballs out.

And in the interest of somewhat equal time, poor Biskit doesn’t get as much exposure here since he tends to stay away from the camera, but here’s a shot of him pulling off the same trick not long after I brought him home last year….

If I knew this scared Ody so much, I’d wear my Walmart fashion gear all the time!

Mine don’t mind plastic bags, they hate the vacuum cleaner. Which is why we get along so well. So do I.

Oh I know exactly what you mean here!

My cats aren’t afraid of plastic bags, just the noise they make.

    • I think that’s the case with my cats as well, which is why they’ll investigate one if it’s just lying around. But once they end up slipping it on….. you can run, but it’s only gonna make the noise even worse!

  4. There I was considering myself a kind woman and I actually laughed out loud. What is it with kids and animals? The moment we even attempt to rest “all hell breaks out” My friend suggests Hell hasn’t been battened down very tightly considering the amount of times something breaks loose.
