Everyday I’m Shufflin’

When I began tuning out new music in the early 90’s thanks to the likes of Nirvana and Mariah Carey, I latched on to a brand new radio station that began broadcasting in 1991 called The Fox that played what it called “mellow rock,” mainly from the 1970’s.  Back then, oldies radio was 50’s and 60’s songs, and of course I knew the 80’s stuff… so the 70’s were the one decade that was a blank slate in my musical memory.  I quickly picked up a lot of brand new favorites from that station, including this one…

Former Steve Miller Band member Boz Scaggs has a breakthrough hit on both sides of the Atlantic with “Lido Shuffle” in 1977.  The song just missed the Top 10 in the US, topping out at #11.  While “Lowdown” was Scaggs’ only Top 10 hit, and probably the song he’s best remember for… I’ll take the up-tempo “Lido Shuffle” any day.  Now if only someone could tell me what a Lido is….

Any of you shuffling Chitown folks named Lido by chance?

Another lost hit next Monday…

    I’ve always wondering, too!

  2. I always thought it was someone’s name – he missed the boat and he ain’t coming back.

  3. Boz Skaggs was always underrated. Nice choice. Happy Monday.

  4. Gotta love Boz…….I wondered about Lido too – only Lido I knew was in Venice, Italy and that didn’t “fit” !

An okay song but a great name for a singer!

In the UK, a “lido” is an outdoor public swimming pool. Also on a cruise ship it’s the deck where the swimming pool is (lido deck).

Unfortunately nobody can decide how to pronounce it (lee-doh vs lie-doh).

Maybe Boz is on a tour of outdoor swimming pools in his song…
