It’s time for another rocking edition of Mecca Muzak Mondays, where each week I feature a song I really like that I was introduced to via one of the five (so far) CD’s of music Mecca has piped into their stores across the country over the past year and a half. Since I’ve already chosen a song that has appeared on the second, fourth and fifth discs, for today’s feature I’ll choose one of my favorites that could be heard on the first (Winter 2013) and third (Fall 2013) CD’s.
Today’s artist is the one and only Lenny Kravitz, who you probably know for a wide variety of hit songs over the last two decades. Mecca chose a more obscure single from his 2011 album “Black and White America” to include on its in-store soundtrack that is simply titled “Stand.” It is a wonderfully upbeat and catchy pop tune from an artist who was known for his much edgier side…
I normally wouldn’t post the music video version of the song if there’s a lot of dialogue and sound effects interrupting the music, or if the song is remixed a bit for the video (Both of which occur here), but I couldn’t help it after seeing it contained the most wonderfullest prize ever awarded on a fake game show…
The song is an inspirational piece that was supposedly inspired by a friend of Lenny’s who managed to overcome being paralyzed from the waist down. That’s fitting, because miracles like this happen all the time in Mecca when people are forced to abandon the electronic scooters they’re riding right in the middle of a major aisle after the batteries run down because they’ve run it all over the store playing bumper cars with their friends. One of these smartasses even ditched theirs in the aisle I was working in last year, stood up, raised his arms to the sky and shouted, “It’s a miracle!!!!’ before scampering off to snicker with the rest of his hooligans who had nothing better to do on a Saturday night than run amok in a fucking store. They really should let us strike the customers on occasions when it really calls for it…
And no post on Lenny Kravitz would be complete without mentioning that his mother is actress Roxie Roker.

Yes, that’s THREE references to “The Jeffersons” on this blog in the last two and a half weeks. I’m hoping that’s a record.
See you next Monday with another awesome Mecca earworm!
Considering some of the options, this one isn’t too bad. Mostly. The first five times you hear it.
It took me at least that long to appreciate how much I liked it. I particularly like that funky bass that kicks in during the second verse… I’m a total sucker for a good bass line….
My zippy cart at Mecca ran out of juice once, and I was incredibly angry. That pisses me off that people do that…if you don’t need one, leave them for the people who do. Fucktards.
Oh, good morning ES. Nice tune. 🙂
I wish we could de-scooter the jackasses who have no need to be riding in one other than the fact that they’re either bored or lazy, but alas…. we might end up offending someone. There’s nothing in store policy that says a customer can’t smack around the fucktards, though! 😉
I’ve got a zonk once as a “leaving present” from a boy… I’m not sure if I picked the wrong gate or he…
I wonder if when LK had a song on the charts if Casey Kasem ever said it was movin’ on up the charts?
Kind of related, do you read the Daily Post? The weekly challenge posted today is to write a parody a la Weird Al…..
No I don’t. Hmmmm, writing parodies seems so daunting. I wonder if I could do it….?
And 5 minutes later as I’m turning over the fried chicken (what else?), the significance of your first line hits me. Of course, you already know I can be quite dense…
WOW – had no idea he was related to Roxie Roker – see we *do* learn new things from your blog every day – snorts 🙂 XOXO – Bacon
P.S. Now this little oinker is off to find out who is Lenny Kravitz… hey what? I’m only 2.5 years old.
Funny, silly and zany. Loved this, sorry I have fallen behind on my ES reading! Thanks for your extra nice comment, have a lovely and humorous weekend!
Thanks, and best wishes for you as well!
