Getting Warmer….

Spring is just around the corner…..

Now hold it a minute!  This isn’t a celebratory post!

I was quite pleasantly surprised to read this post from one of my favorite bloggers Pish overratedyesterday, because it isn’t often I see someone who generally holds the same bizarre attitude as I do towards the coming of the warmer months… even if we do have different reasons for our contrary view.

Fact is, I generally look forward to Spring like I look forward to seeing my doctor and having him chew me out for being too fat.  I’m ambivalent towards warmer weather.  I’ll take a 20 degree day over a 100 degree day anytime.  I do not dress in summer clothes, and (shock!) I really don’t enjoy looking at others in their summer clothes…

ES takes a different view...

ES takes a different view…

And that brings up a rather interesting observation I’ve made.  It seems like whenever there’s a brief thaw in the middle of winter, you see a lot of people already breaking out the warm weather outfits.  The first January day when it hits 50 degrees, notice how many people are out without jackets, wearing shorts, and even sandals!  Are you kidding me?  Is everyone in that big of a hurry to get back into the Spring swing?  We had one of these brief warming trends this past weekend, and judging by what the customers were wearing at work, you’d swear it was June and not March….

Please keep your feets to yourself....

Please keep your feets to yourself….

It’s the sandals that drive me up the wall the most, because I’m a firm believer in the law that feet should be concealed at all times in public.  I don’t care if you paint your nails, remove all the toejam, and even wash them…. feet are ugly.  No, make that fugly.  Since I’m poor at making eye contact with people, the first thing I usually notice about someone is their footwear, or lack thereof.  I don’t like seeing icky, alien looking feet staring back at me.  It’s bad enough having to see some dude’s deformed looking toes, but even the most beautiful women in the world have scary looking feet….

The proper footwear for all you chicks out there.

Mention the word snow, and many people want to curl up in a ball… after they’ve stocked up on 3 months worth of milk, bread, and toilet paper, of course.  I like snow.  I look strangely at those who live in warmer climates who rarely if ever get snow and like to brag about that fact.  What’s wrong with these people?  Snow makes everything look pretty!  Despite what some people from The South might think, snow can even be driven upon by an automobile!  Don’t like shoveling snow?  Then don’t!  I haven’t shoveled snow since I moved here four years ago.  I even backed my car out of the driveway in 10 inches of snow a couple years ago.  Really, people, snow can be your friend if you just take the right attitude towards it!

The correct attitude.

The correct attitude.

Even better attitude!

Even better attitude!

So y’all can get giddy and excited about the impending vernal equinox, and break out the speedos and flip flops.  As for me, I’ll probably be in the corner here curled up in a ball upon hearing the first robin of Spring.  Bah humbug to the warmer weather!  At least there’s only six more months until the start of autumn….

  1. Cheer up! Spring is a lovely time of year…birds start singing, squirrels start scritching and pigladillos reappear! 😀

    • I was going to introduce Pigladillo to my blog by making this a “ramblings” post, but since I was able to say so much about my dislike of the coming of Spring, I decided to ditch it. Perhaps tomorrow…

This was so much fun to read because I’m wearing my sandals right at this moment. I don’t have a problem with feet, and I love not wearing shoes. I’ll wear sandals it the weather is even remotely good, and I really want to move to non-snowy area in the future just so I can wear sandals all year round. 🙂

  3. squirrelmg, Texas sounds like your kind of place!

I have a fascinating photo of my family I call “Outback family Christmas in Australia”. It is wicked hot and the menfolk are sitting in a very elegant room at a very elegant Christmas table (courtesy of the women folk) without shoes! They make up for it though by leaving their Croc Dundee type hats on. Taken in the 1960s. A hoot!’ You would laugh and then be appalled!

Awwww! First of all, thanks so much for the shout-out. I would send you internet hugs, but I don’t want to make you feel awkward, so I’ll settle for sending along good thoughts and feelings of gratitude. 🙂

Oh! The warm weather outfits — yes! Another reason to dread the coming of Spring. Ugh. And don’t even get me started on Summer. I think the hot weather frizzles whatever brain cells people have left, making them think that less clothing is a great idea. Most of the time, less is not more. Instead, more is more. People should remember this: More is more!

    Fun and funny post!

    • Internet hugs are like American Express… they are accepted the world over! 🙂

Thank you! And more is definitely more! Except when less is more, but less is less in this case no less, and not more anymore… oh, I just confused myself!

Great post and I agree on some of it but I have to admit Spring is still my favorite season 🙂 I don’t hate the snow though. I don’t like having to drive in it but seeing it falling, or looking out at the freshly covered ground, and definitely playing in it with the kids are great reasons to like snow. 🙂

And you might be encouraged to know that outside of ditching the occasional sweatshirt/sweater and my heavy coat once spring arrives, my outfits don’t really change much lol I am a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers kind of girl pretty much all the way. lol : )

I don’t understand everyone’s big hurry to ditch socks. I like socks. They’re comfy and they make shoes not dig into your feet. The popularity of flip flops baffles me.
