The Pigladillo

armadillo

With the lyrics game I’m running on my other internet home, I’m still struggling to find free time over here during the early part of the week, but that’ll all be over at the end of the month and hopefully I’ll be back to about 5 posts a week…

For today’s quickie post, here’s a quirky character of mine who sprang forth in the typical odd mishmash fashion most of my more famous characters first came about.  I have a friend on the message board who I call Jessie (You occasionally see her comment here as Kim Collins Gilby), and she’s a big fan of ES.

Enough so to have gotten her own character…

She moved to Texas not too long ago and has been hoping to see a real, live armadillo since she seems to have a fascination with the critters.  Well, me and her along with Fanny were discussing that one night in the board’s chatroom at the same time a discussion of squirrels as nature’s acrobats came up.  Jessie mentioned that she saw one in a tree in her backyard and was going to try to take a picture of it.  “An armadillo?” I asked jokingly.  Fanny, as only Fanny could, without missing a beat said “Armadillos!  Nature’s Acrobats!!!”

It cracked my ass up, and this little avatar was born:

Yes, I'm using the same picture twice in the same post! Sue me!

One of the other posters on the board, not knowing the inspiration, asked why I had a Piglet-possum cross in my avatar.  I had to admit, it bore a striking resemblance to the Pooh character Piglet, and thus the Pigladillo was born!  The first and only arboreal armadillo!

I drew him again for a visual clue from my lyrics game that represented the song “Tempted” by Squeeze….

Hopefully the amazing Pigladillo will keep you tided over until Thursday’s comic!

Hee hee, love it! I live in Glasgow, Scotland (as you probably know) and there is a concert hall here, fondly known as The Armadillo, cos it’s shaped like its shell (sadly, not because it’s acrobatic!). I liked learning that today, love him swinging from the tree and he looks suitably smug by his skills! 🙂

    • LOL on the concert hall! That’s funny. And I guess if I were the only member of my species who could swing from trees with the greatest of ease, I’d probably be pretty smug about it as well!

  3. I absolutely love today’s post! I just came back from a walk through the neighborhood and once again, zero pigladillo sightings! As Miss Scarlett remarked, “Tomorrow’s another day”!!!

Your drawings, especially the quirky ones, always put a smile on my face. Thanks!!!

How do you express so beautifully? I think it’s unfair that you are terrific with words AND pictures 😀 haha

Much love for Pigladillo! I saw tons of armadillos growing up. They were everywhere, and my dogs used to chase them. You wouldn’t believe how fast those little guys can be when they are suitably motivated. (The armadillos, not my dogs. LOL)
