Squirrels love to use our electricity infrastructure as a way of getting from one place to another (A preference which cost one of my squirrels its life, and me an hour of electricity this past Wednesday). I wandered outside with my camera on a day last month when the squirrel activity in my neighborhood was as off the charts as I’ve ever seen it. I was standing near the power pole in my backyard when I caught these three squirrels continuing their chase that started in my neighbor’s tree onto the cable wire that runs along my subdivision’s ditch. I’ve rarely caught a squirrel on a wire from this vantage point… let alone three of them at one time! I love this photo, even if the squirrels in it are all a bit out of focus!
Once…. Twice…. Three times a Saturday Squirrel!
Have a great weekend, and if you live in most of the US, don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour tonight!
We call it the squirrel highway….my old apartment had a very busy wire running across, and there would be a bunch of them, scurrying about. 🙂
My wire gets a lot of traffic… most of the squirrels I photograph live in the next door neighbor’s tree, or one in the yard across from me… and the wire is their favorite way to get from one place to the other. It’s funny watching them when they’re trying to run… they look like they’re one slip away from falling, but somehow never do!
That’s cause they are really acrobats.
Without the cheesy leotards…
I like my nuts au natural.
They look like the Flying Wallendas! When they start building 7 squirrel pyramids up there, you might want to look into a safety net…..
Forget that… I’ll erect bleachers and sell tickets!
RIP poor squirrel. Great picture. We haven’t seen too many squirrels around here. Still too cold. Spring forward!
As I recall, it was still pretty cold the day I took that picture. I have impatient squirrels that need to get their playtime in any kind of weather!
Awesome pic again ! I was imagining them chasing each other down that wire with their tails up and wiggling now and then 🙂 I love their eyes …they are playful, innocent and naughty at the same time 🙂 Squirrels are one of my favourite animals, and there was a guy who built his nest on our wooden cupboard. He had his kids up there, and would even respond to our calls !! This was I think when I was 5 or 6 years old but I remember it very vividly.
Their tails sure do get a’moving when they are excited! I’ve been watching mine build nests for the last couple weeks… probably more little ones on the way soon!
I have a squirrel free zone in my back yard! Dogs who bark at them will do that….but every once in a while a little bugger will stay on the ground just long enough for my Yorkie to see it and he will tear out after it. Only one has had the misfortune of being caught and that was shortly after we moved into our house. Otherwise they know to stay juuuuust out of reach on the other side of the fence or the bottom branch and laugh! I swear….I think they are laughing!!!!! 😉
They absolutely are laughing! And probably looking for things to throw too!
great picture! 🙂 sorry to hear what happened Wednesday though.
Thankfully, it is rare. In 5 years, only three squirrels have ever met death by transformer in my backyard. Given how often that pole is traversed by squirrels every day, that’s actually a pretty good safety record!
glad to hear that 🙂 Oh and since you happen to be on, check out the blog that I am getting ready to post. (give me one more minute 😉 )

aww! What a great Saturday squirrel. 3 for the price of one. I do enjoy a bargain. 🙂
Now I just need to get them to pose for a family portrait!
