Squirrel In The Mud

Please wipe your paws before entering.

Ever walk across the grass before and end up stepping into a giant mushy spot of mud?  This squirrel seems to have found that muddy spot at the park… and though I’m sure he hadn’t, it almost looks like he’s sunk a bit into the ground.  For squirrels and humans alike in my neck of the woods, this has been a common theme for as long as we’ve been in this pattern of getting rain every few days.  While we’ve gotten some great Springlike temperatures this year that were largely absent last April, you’ve had to break out the galoshes to actually enjoy being outside in it.

This squirrel’s name may be mud, but he got down and dirty to be this week’s Saturday Squirrel.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Maybe that’s actually the squirrel spa and he’s having a mud bath??? Very therapeutic I understand! We’re on that kind of weather schedule too – it’s getting irritating even though it’s nice to have an actual SPRING.

  2. In Maine, mud has its own season and we’re knee deep in it. Torrential rain and thunderstorms last night have left my lawn a swamp. Sorry squirrels…

Mrs Squirrel’s gonna be cross when he gets home…

If squirrels are anything like dogs, this squirrel must be a boy. Our female dogs always went around mud puddles, while the boys stomp right through the middle. I’ve had to clean mud spatters off my floors and walls several times this wet, cold April. Gary especially likes to shake it all off on the stairs, which is an especially hard place to clean!

    • That could be…. especially since it has one of the park’s infamous ear notches, meaning it was probably “fixed.” And I’d bet it’s only the boys who they give the procedure to since it’s easier…

      • Trisha says:

Do they actually neuter some of the squirrels?

      • I don’t know… but it was proposed as a possibility during one of my ear notch posts. There are already a lot of squirrels at the park… I imagine their population might get out of hand if a few of them didn’t get snipped. It would be a shame if the annoying kids and power walkers in yoga pants all got run out of the park by the a squirrel horde!

  5. Are you sure that squirrel isn’t part elephant? Elephants like mud baths…

  6. The mushy spots around my house are usually something a lot less savory than a bit of clean dirt mixed with water. Courtesy of Pudge and Ziggy, who seem to be poo factories…

    • I sure hope the park isn’t full of squirrel poo since I always walk through it. I can’t even say for sure I’ve seen squirrel poo before… I don’t know what it looks like!

  7. Let’s just hope that’s only mud. With ‘brown stuff’ sometimes you can’t tell until it’s too late. 💩
