Share Your World – Week 196

Smile for all 2 billion of my followers, Angel!

It was a landmark day in Millennial culture on October 6, 2010 when a brand new app first became available for download that went by the name of Instagram.  What had first been conceived as a mere check-in app instead decided to focus on photo sharing at a time when the flip phone to smartphone conversion was first gaining momentum… and bathroom mirrors would never be looked at the same again.  It took Facebook all of 16 months to recognize that Instagram founders Kevin Stystrom and Mike Krieger were on to something and gobbled up the rapidly growing app for about a billion bucks, or so.  There are children in high school today who don’t remember a time when they couldn’t instantly snap and send a photo sext to their BFFwB, and that is scary.  Instagram didn’t start the practice of unnecessary selfies, but it sure as hell turned it into a part of everyday human life…

You’re doing it wrong, Art…

And now I’ll stop sending out poor quality photos of my moobs to random people and take a few moments to answer Melanie’s Share Your World questions for this week!

Sorry, cats can’t take selfies.

Favorite horror or Halloween-themed song?  Or a song you rarely hear except around a holiday.

Nobody writes songs about Halloween (unlike that other holiday that won’t be mentioned), but there are obviously a lot of songs that fit the horror theme, or just happen to have titles that mention scary things like zombies or leisure suits.  With Halloween on a Monday this year, I’ll need to reserve such a song for my Dusty Vinyl Archive post…. so I’ll just go with a classic:

Do you ever see figures in your peripheral vision?

Of course not!  There’s nothing lurking behind me…..

Bwahahaha!!!

Which urban legend scares you the most?

That the Mecca I work at is haunted because it was built on a Native American burial ground.  That was always so silly……. at least until they started our expansion in 2009 and found a whole shitload of artifacts.  Now we know there really is an Indian who’s knocking stuff off of the shelves at night….

Oh boy, my new trainee is here.

You’re home alone but you hear footsteps in your house, what do you do?

Turn up the music.  Not only will I no longer hear the footsteps, but my taste will scare away even the most hardy ghost….

And people think disco music is completely worthless…

What is your favourite season?

Selfie season! (not)

  1. Keeping up with a blog every day is tough enough for this old girl – Instagram and all the other “grams” are for those with more energy. So your Mecca really IS on an ancient burial ground – that explains a lot…… Love the ‘toon – yes – THAT’s what I call over-exposure. Once it’s “out there” it’s out there endlessly. EEEK.

    • I don’t know how people “keep track” of their five million friends and followers and whatever else… or why anyone would want a photo of some stranger’s feet to pop up on their phone.

Instagram – just another waster of my time, I’m afraid.

  3. So Instagram was born in 2010, eh? Seems like it has been around so much longer. It seems like everyone is focused on it and their device way too much, it’s surprising there aren’t more pedestrian accidents. I watched a millennial mom with a SUV sized stroller complete with squalling child and dog who’s pottying on someone’s front lawn while she was deeply engrossed with her screen. It was all I could do not to scream to put the damn phone down and focus on her kid and dog rather than her feed. 😬

If you had presented that song on a Monday it would have received an all-too-rare thumbs up from me. But since this is a SYW post, I can’t possibly comment…

    • That’s actually the second time I dropped Frankenstein on my blog…. it appeared in a SCT episode as well. Much too popular for the DVA, though I had thought of doing a Top 30 instrumental countdown, except I’ve already featured about half of the songs I’d include in it.
