If you (yawn!) missed the big news this morning, Punxsutawny Phil apparently did not see his shadow today, meaning we will have an early Spring. Of course, it’s kinda hard to see a shadow when a bunch of stuffy old men in tuxedos and top hats are grabbing at all of your groundhog parts in front of every major media outlet from The Onion to Al Jazeera. Today’s Saturday squirrel is not one of the sheepish masses out there who is going to be getting his weather forecast from the rodentine Al Roker. It got bitterly cold here on Thursday, and even snowed for a bit in the afternoon. The harsh conditions weren’t going to stop this little guy from frolicking about looking for sustenance. Neither wind nor snow nor rain nor hail nor gloom of Pennsylvania preverts in coattails were going to stop this squirrel from his appointed rounds….
Our Saturday squirrel can’t predict the weather, and he has no idea who’s going to win the Super Bowl tomorrow, but he assures you there will be many more weeks of sciuriness on Saturdays to come this year at The Nest! Perhaps one of our knitters out there could make this poor guy a pair of long johns, though….
Have a great Saturday, regardless of the weather!
That squirrel is lookin’ frosty!
Don’t you just hate ice in the fur!
ya gotta feel sorry for Phil. All those Grabby Handed Humans. Gives me teh creeps.
Where is PETA when you need them?
You sure wouldn’t know spring is on it’s way today, we had a very unexpected snow last night but it’s supposed to be 45 tomorrow….weird.
Yep, it’s warming up again this coming week! Yo yo temps aren’t uncommon in winter, but from 20 to 70 to 20 again is pretty odd….
Imagine what on earth people who didn’t know what was going on would think?/?
Also squirrel long johns? I am on it.
LOL! I can picture it like the voyeuristic aliens from The Twilight Zone.
“These earth people have some strange customs. Set the death ray to ludicrous speed, ALF!”
Just what I needed on this gray, cold, and snowy day — Squirrel cuteness!!! Squirrels wouldn’t bother predicting whether or not winter was going to be longer; they have better things to do with their time! ^.~
That’s right! I’ve seen squirrels out in all kinds of weather before, so I don’t think they even care about the forecast! There is one who likes to hang out on the nook of one of my tree branches everytime it gets cold and windy… It’s kinda funny to watch him sit there, tail blowing all over the place. I may have to use him as my Saturday Squirrel before winter ends…

Thank you! I am honored!
Imagine my chagrin when I found out that February 2 is the mid-way point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox…every year. So it doesn’t even matter if the soothsaying rodent sees his shadow or not! I felt so cheated. And so hurt. So, so hurt.
Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, then the Groundhog. The last one is the most painful childhood myth to learn about….
Truer words were never spoken, my friend. And btw, there is nothing on this earth cuter than a baby squirrel.
Amen!
