Squirrels are very athletic creatures, and you always see them chasing each other around and about and all over the place. But have you ever seen two squirrels challenge each other to a race?
These two critters I caught in my backyard a week ago certainly seem to have their sights set on beating the other to the finish line off in the distance. They’re just waiting for the signal to start so they can be the first to break the tape and get the ultimate bragging rights among the other sciurines in the neighborhood. I wonder what awaits the winner at the finish line? A bucket of acorns? An all you can eat birdfeeder? Perhaps a squirrel girl to give the victor a peck on the cheek?
Gentlesquirrels, start your engines! The green flag is about to drop on the race to be this week’s Saturday Squirrel!
Hope your weekend is off to a running start!
Squirrel Olympics, up next. Hope you have a great weekend, ES.
Thank you! And I would gladly host the Squirrel Olympics in my backyard… if only because I would love to see teams full of those beautiful Eastern European creatures in person mingling with my greys!
bet the winner will get golden nuts :o)
They dangle, just like an Olympic medal…
Perhaps this was part of a larger event, the semi-annual squirrel Olympics?
Seems like they’re training for the Olympics every day in my backyard!
HaHa! Great photo ES! 🙂
Every picture tells a story…. whether that story is true or not!
Bottle Brush Tail has the weight advantage, but Sleek Tail has aerodynamics on their side.
It’s like NASCAR.
If I see squirrels drafting, I will never believe it!
It was a fab weekend, but very busy! I feel a bit like a squirrel who has run her feet off myself… 🙂 Nice photo as always! I could use an all you can eat feeder…
