Still Here

And still miserable.  My optimistic thoughts of going back to work tonight were quashed by my doctor who said it could take two to three WEEKS for the swelling to subside.

It hurts to stand.  It hurts to sit.  It hurts to lie down.  If I try to get up from a seated or lying position…. oh, good fucking lord.  It’s the main reason I haven’t been at my computer desk much the last few days.

About the best I can do is sit in the comfy somewhat comfy living room chair and polish of what’s left of my Uncle John’s Bathroom Readers (I already ordered three more)… but unfortunately, they have a lot of humorous content, and…….. well, whoever said laughter is the best medicine never had a watermelon sized knot where the groin meets the upper leg.  I’m almost not exaggerating, because it’s gotten almost comically (don’t… laugh) grotesque looking.

Whether I do either of my Sunday and Monday features is completely up to how I feel…. so if you don’t see them, don’t necessarily panic.

As I usually do on Saturdays, I’ll wish you all a great weekend.  Too bad it won’t be mutual…

  1. Well I can WISH you a great weekend, it just won’t be fulfilled. I’m so sorry, seriously. That’s got to be so depressing. I’m glad you went to the doctor, did he not have any ideas for pain relief for you, not to mention how to bring the swelling down a bit? My heck, that sounds like you can’t walk without great difficulty, setting aside the pain. Your Saturday Squirrel is very appropriate to the situation, he looks sympathetic at least! I am too. Take care Bill. Keep us informed as you’re able.

    • The doctor underestimated this one, so I wound up in the ER Sunday morning and just got out of the hospital this evening. I feel a LOT better now (other than having a useless right hand due to an IV infiltration)… and am certainly glad to be home again without being in unbearable pain.

I’m so sorry this is continuing. Your physician should have put you on antibiotics and steroid!

    • He put me on antibiotics, the same ones that cures my last infection. But they wound up doing nothing because the infection was a lot worse than either of us thought. It took days worth of IV antibiotics to even dredge it all up…

  3. jarilissima says:

Aw Man, I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you get better soon 🙏 Take care of yourself.

  4. 1jaded1 says:

    Hope you heal quickly.

  5. I know that must hurt REALLY bad in addition to just being in an awkward place so you can’t even walk. It must really be a very bad infection – so sorry. Don’t worry about blogging – don’t worry about anything – just get better. I would have thought the doctor could have come up with something for the pain and maybe at least some temporary relief – like soaking in a tub, etc. GET WELL SOON.

    Pam

    • Well, when I wound up in the hospital, it took all those options away from me anyway (thanks to my smartphone free life!). I’m feeling better now…. still not out of the woods, but I can sit, stand, walk and most importantly, transition from one to the other without being in pain again!

      • I wondered where you were and thought maybe hospital considering the pain you were in…..glad you’re better – moving without pain is a powerful thing!! I was afraid you’d fallen into the moat with the man-eating otters………………. 🙂

      • They at least would have put me out of my misery fast!

  6. Having spent a pretty big chunk of the last couple of decades of my life being sick, getting medically mutilated, recovering from the mutilation, what kept be sane were AUDIOBOOKS. You don’t have to focus your eyes. You can slump in your sort of comfy chair and let the words wash over you. Sometimes, if the book is actually interesting, you have short periods when you aren’t brooding about what a disaster your body has turned out to be.

Otherwise, there’s brooding, obsessing, getting depressed, getting MORE depressed, trying to watch TV and realizing you aren’t interested in anything, or trying to sleep and discovering that pain has a real knack for keeping you awake when all you want to do is crash.

Hang on in there. It gets better. Eventually.

    • I’m sure it will get better again…. and who knows, I might even get to enjoy some of that healthy time before the next ailment of aging smacks me upside the head…

Glad you went to the Dr. and hope the swelling goes down soon. Ouch!
My husband likes those bathroom reader books, too, and has a bunch of them. Lots of funny stuff in there. 🙂

    • Unfortunately, it took a four and a half day hospital stay to get me back in somewhat decent shape. One of my nurses saw the Bathroom Reader and pointed out that he had a real Uncle John who introduced him to them! I was largely stuck watching GSN game shows while I was there, and it was funny how many of the questions I’d just read about in one of the Readers!

      • ghostmmnc says:

Oh no! Sorry you had to be in the hospital! Hopefully you’ll be feeling much better now that it’s been attended to.
That’s funny that an Uncle John likes the bathroom readers, too. Cool you could answer some trivia questions after remembering them from the books. 🙂

  8. Rivergirl says:

That sounds awful, so sorry. I shall alert the squirrel network… maybe they can help with chores.

  9. I hope you feel better soon!

  10. draliman says:

Oh yoinks, that sounds awful 😦 Two to three weeks? I hope it sorts itself faster than that. Even the squirrel in your photo looks kinda sad.

    • What does my doctor know? He thought the infection causes a swelled lymph node. No, it just created a huge lump of infection that ran so deep, I nearly drained the hospital of IV antibiotics the last few days during my stay. The lancing was quite a sight, I’ve been told. I wonder if Zeeba likes spilling pus?

  11. mydangblog says:

Hang in—I know it’s awful but you’ll be better before you know it 😊

    • I don’t know what’s worse…. seven days stuck at home unable to enjoy doing anything, or five days hooked up to an IV machine unable to do anything other than watch third rate game shows? I feel reasonably better now, though…

  12. Hugs and thoughts of cuteness and healing.

  13. randomlyerin says:

Damn dude, I hope you feel better soon. That sounds like the absolute suck.

  14. So sorry this is lingering. Guess my ‘pawsitive’ healing thoughts need some amp-titude. Feel better soon.

  15. Mer O'Leary says:

    Ouch. Sorry!

  16. Ally Bean says:

Sorry to read this, hoping you feel better soon.

  17. 1jaded1 says:

I’m glad you are doing better, Bill. In reading your responses, I’m overjoyed that you are still here (alive) even if it took time in the hospital. That sounds like one nasty infection.
