#65 – Reaching For The Stars

Photo taken: November 1, 2012

We’ve reached the part of my Top 200 photos countdown where the entries should all have some kind of wow factor to them… and at first there seems to be nothing to get all excited about in this off center picture of a tree trunk.  There is a squirrel in it… maybe you noticed him, leaping out of the bottom frame.  Capturing squirrels in motion is a point and click and hope you get something exercise… and I just barely got the critter in this seemingly failed shot.  But that’s what makes this picture so cool to me… the way he seems to be crawling out from the bottom… reaching up the trunk…. pulling himself up…. achieving his dreams… inch by grueling inch.  This is actually the first time I’ve posted this full photo on my blog… I ran a cropped version of this as a Saturday Squirrel way back in 2013.  This squirrel is inspiring to me, and he should also help motivate you to give it all you’ve got and keep reaching for the stars…

    Nuts… in… tree… must… reach… nuts…

  2. Cool photo – I looked at the photo before I read your words and thought the squirrel was just a dead leaf floating away. Now I know it was a live squirrel fighting his way to NUTOPIA!

    • There is a dead leaf floating away in this photo, which I hadn’t noticed before and thought looked neat. Hopefully it doesn’t hit the squirrel and knock him back down the tree…

Good eye and camera work for the unusual squirrel photos! 🙂

  4. Okay. I have to say this: the cropped version is better. You can see what’s going on. I couldn’t figure out what was happening until I looked at the cropped version and suddenly, it was a story. The life of a squirrel!

    • The cropped version is a lot clearer and still has the same effect of the squirrel climbing up from the bottom…. though what I like about the raw photo is that it offers even more perspective on how close this photo was to being absolutely nothing at all…
