The Nest still has the Dusty Vinyl Archive plugged into the cigarette lighter so it can recharge its C batteries. So we’re continuing March Madness with another shopping earworm from DJ Scratchy’s other archive…. the one that houses Mecca Muzak Mondays!
This week’s selection comes from a self-made pop diva who’s a little bit Madonna, a little bit Britney, and a teaspoon of Gwen Stafani…. yet achieved nowhere near the success of any of that trio of blonde pop stars. Jessica Malakouti left home at 16 to chase her dreams of being a music star in Hollywood. Unlike many others the city chewed up and spit out, Jessie hit the ground running with a number of bands. In 2014, she went solo under the stage name Eden xo, with her debut single “Too Cool To Dance,” which a couple years ago became a frequent Mecca Radio treat…
In the same year Iggy Azalea had somehow become one of the foremost female (cough, hack) singers/rappers of the time with the ear-wretching “Fancy” (Which was thankfully salvaged as a great Weird Al parody), Eden kept the annoyance that’s possible in that deadly combination to a minimum and recorded a song that got little exposure, but is not too cool to play on The Nest!

Well that’s quite a dance song…..lot going on in that video but I like it – the song and the video – especially with some oldies in there rockin’ out. Very COOL to dance!

That was fun. Great voice. I’ve heard her song but had no idea about any of the background information. By the time this song came out the kids were listing to Alternative music and I was listening to that and my usual weird crap.
2014 is one of my favorite years for recent music, but this one didn’t make the radio or Mecca back then. I’m glad I didn’t miss out on it completely so I can be one of the cool kids to dance to it…

Quite a peppy tune I guess, though it was getting pretty annoying by the time it got a couple of minutes in…
