Squirrels have enough trouble remembering where they buried all of their nuts for the winter when the time comes that they actually need them. A difficult task becomes almost impossible when Jack Frost decides to dump over half a foot of snow on the ground their tasty treasures lie beneath.
We got hit with the snow on Sunday, and I took these pictures on Wednesday morning of this poor little guy in search of his lost nut. For his relentless determination to stick to his squirrely duties despite the blanket of fluffy white snow, he gets the honor of being this week’s chilly Saturday Squirrel!
Keep looking, my friend. Surely it’s out there somewhere beneath all of that snow….
Have a great weekend, and keep digging for that little piece of happiness!
Poor chilly fella. All that effort for cold nuts!
If you squint a little, the second to last picture looks like those pics you see of the Loch Ness Monster.
(yeah, I need to go back to sleep)
LOL, did you say Loch Ness Squirrel?

Cold nuts aren’t good for anyone…. man nor beast!
Too funny LOL
Aw, gorgeous 🙂
He’s so cute! And cold…. 😉
is that poor thing really sitting in snow?
Yes it is. Some squirrels do like to play in the snow… but I saw one yesterday go nuts at the bottom of my tree because he wanted to hit the ground, but didn’t want to jump into the snow. I’m not sure what he eventually did when I quit watching…
Poor thing! This has been a rough winter for them!
Yep… and it’s still a long way from being over!
Good luck little squirrel! I’m sure he’ll find, if not his nut then some other squirrel’s nut, eventually.
With how many have been buried out there, I would think he wouldn’t have too much trouble….
Aww ! poor guy maybe you could have left an apple or two out for him …if not nuts 🙂 Lovely pics.
The two squirrels who live in my tree out back scarf up whatever I put out before any of the other neighborhood squirrels can find it. Squirrels have never been ones for sharing! 🙂
Maybe after digging through the snow, the nut will taste that much better.
And if he never finds it, and just says, “Bah, that nut probably wasn’t tasty enough to find anyway,” would you call that a tale of sour nuts?
Sour nuts sounds like a bad candy idea
The world’s worst jawbreaker…
Here nut nut nut….
Nut nut nut? You looking for a three bagger? 😉
Nut… 😉
Poor little feller. It snows here yesterday, but doay we got a quickie warmup today and heavy rain, thunder and lightning. At least the ground is clear — until the next storm. Gives the critters a fighting chance.
Yeah, most of the snow is already gone here too, except for what got plowed up into my front yard (I literally live at the end of my street)…
HaHa love the aesop reference O learned squirrel! Gosh it looks cold there!
It was cold that day, but even colder a few days before that. about 7 below zero Fahrenheit! I can happily say that all of my squirrels seem to be accounted for in the aftermath of the snow and the cold… I even spotted the red-tail for a short time Thursday!
Yay!!! 🙂
It was sunny and 50 degrees here yesterday so I got to watch the little fluffers chase each other around the yard and up the trees. I think they were enjoying the break from the frigid temps as much as we were.
Oh yeah. They’re always very active on any above normal temp day in winter! I guess squirrels get nest fever like we get cabin fever….
“”Hammy the Squirrel: Wanna help me find my nuts?
RJ: Very tempting, Hammy, very tempting…” -Over the Hedge (in this case, under the fence…)
I should ask random strangers that! I doubt I’ll get any volunteers….
bwa ha ha ha….
Aaaarrgh! What is this? A TV series cliffhanger finale? You left us hanging…….did he find his nut???!!!!
I love those snowy squirrels! They must really be hungry to be digging so deeply! This was so cute! Take care, robin
